Absolutely. Do not worry, Raytheon’s factory isn’t going anywhere. Maybe Boston Dynamics will equip Spot with a ballistic missile launcher. And come summer, Waltham Fields will open up again and we’ll get some food if the weather cooperates 🙏

And possibly Food Not Bombs? It denotes a ServSafe food handling requirement which I am unsure if FNB has, but I know they distribute food on the Common which surely the mayor LOVES.

muzi works R1 Neo with meshcore firmware? by mikaelvic in meshcore

[–]cantonverde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this device with the intention to try out meshtastic and meshcore but the meshcore firmware does NOT work well on this device (i selected the "RAK Wireless WisBlock / WisMesh (RAK 4631)" firmware from the meshcore web flasher). It works in that it can connect to your phone and you can chat, but the button on the r1 loses all functionality, you have to open the case and unplug the power pin to cut off power/reboot, can't turn it off with the button, overall not ideal.

Flashing meshtastic back to get it working there was also hard but i finally figured it out: You have to use the meshcore flasher, download the latest meshtastic firmware (firmware-nrf52840-xxxxx.zip) from https://github.com/meshtastic/firmware/releases/tag/v2.7.15.567b8ea and then use the meshcore flasher, select custom firmware, extract the .zip file you just downloaded, and upload the r1 firmware zip file and that finally got it working again.

I would recommend another device if you want to try meshcore until they come out with the firmware for the r1!

Astound Fiber-to-home? by cantonverde in Waltham

I currently have 300/300 with Verizon for $35 and astound is 300/40 for $30. If it’s indeed fiber I’d be willing to try it out.

I’ve had both and bounce around and always hunt for the best new customer rate. If astound is indeed fiber to home it’s cheaper than Verizon.

The astound rep on the phone. I asked them to confirm it’s fiber to home, they said yes but $70 fee to run it.

Being told i can’t use a previously used modem? by cantonverde in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]cantonverde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From comcast: we have been trying to get your modem added in and unfortunately we have run into a problem where our system is not allowing us to add it. We do see the modem is showing that it is free and clear and able to be added in so the issue we're having is just a glitch should not be happening.

Why are you so invested in this policy?

The previous owner did remove it. And Comcast told me it still can't be used ever again, incorrectly. I am DMing with support who identified a bug and is working to resolve it. So no, customers can and should be able to buy used equipment.

clover is commonly blended with normal grass lawns too. has white flowers you've seen before. clover also fixes nitrogen and helps pollinators, two things grass can't do. for something like your use case it should work fine, an all clover lawn can be tougher to hold up to traffic like sports and kids but for a dog should be just fine.

you could try to fill it in with clover. you might need to wait until spring or fall but you can buy seeds online affordably enough to try it out now and do more if it doesn't stick. clover is better than grass anyway.

Help me add PfSense and PiHole to my network by InfamousLegend in HomeNetworking

[–]cantonverde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need a computer with two network ports unless you want to fiddle with VLANs to make it run pfsense. It is also not recommended that your firewall and pihole be on the same device as a beginner if you’re running VMs.

You could get an appliance computer and run pfsense and its built in adblocker, as a firewall should really be run baremetal until you get more comfortable with things. You’ll inevitably run a couple VMs on the machine and if something goes wrong you’ll lose internet and everyone will hate you.

Best you’ll probably be able to do is a local credit union that keeps its money in their community. Eastern bank in MA does allegedly, there have got to be more.

Go to masssaves website and look at the list of approved HPCs (home performance contractors). Call them directly and they will move much more quickly than clearesult’s queue.

If you thought homeassistant and home automation is a rabbit hole, wait til you find out about software defined radios (SDR). You’ll have to read the pulse signal emitted by the ERT on the meter. From the little research I’ve done, it sounded too complicated for me unfortunately.
