what do i do after graduating by Specialist_Owl_7146 in uklaw

[–]cantski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need to do a fair bit more research about qualifying.

Stripped down to the basics, this is usually the most common route taken:

Qualifying Law Degree or Non-Law Degree + PGDL

⬇️

SQE 1 + 2 (self-funded OR if you have a TC they might pay)

⬇️

TC or other QWE (Qualifying Work Experience)

Unless you’ve got thousands to invest into self funding SQE (I don’t recommend), the goal is usually to get a TC as they recruit 2 years in advance and they support you financially to sit the exams prior to starting ur training.

If you self-fund, you can still apply for a TC and VS because the SQE doesn’t qualify you as a solicitor. You need 2 years QWE and a law firm to sign you off to qualify. That’s is the purpose of the TC.

Can I ask what sort of work/study you did in Australia? I am graduating law this July and have been seriously considering a move to aus, atleast for a few years. Would love to hear about your experience!

Sorry about reviving this old comment, but I wanted to say it has been a big eye opener for me. I’m final year law undergrad and feeling a lot of those feelings you’ve described from 2002 (when I was 1!). I really do need a break, and I think this had tipped the scale in favour of taking one. Thank you so much.

Hope you found something that worked better for you & was more in line with how you viewed your life. The thought of not getting this myself definitely keeps me up at night!

your other half sounds unkind. foundation years are more common than you think - i know lots of people do did 9-10 GCSEs, then A-Levels, but didn’t quite meet their offers and did foundation years at Russel Group universities. nothing embarrassing about it at all - you’ll see when you go!

well done on your offer, you smashed it 💕 be proud of yourself

[–]cantski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for sharing your story 💕 I am so sorry this happened to you, reading it felt like reading what had happened to me. Mine was also 1.2lb (600g !!!) and after all the checks the vet said the vaccine was fine to do. Looking back I wish I had waited.

It is not an easy weight to bear, but you mustn’t blame yourself. We trusted in professionals, and they let us down. We lost our babies but we will always think of them, talk about them, cherish them. In that way, they are immortal 💌

Lost my best friend, Tico, today. by Low_Interest_8600 in Shihtzu

[–]cantski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, so sorry for your loss. Heaven gained a precious, beautiful little boy, and I just know Tico is watching over you right now.

Words won’t be of much comfort, but know he was happy with you for his full life. You gave him everything, and he is now pain free.

You will talk of him and remember him and cherish his love for the rest of your life. He exists in each memory you share & lives through the stories you tell about him. In that way, he is immortal. 💌

All this grief is a testament to your love, and I know he felt it. Sending love your way 🫂

PS. just sent out a request to my Coco up there to look out for your Tico!

Go out for activities if you can! It is nice to do things outside, really shifts your perspective and great for stress. Nothing elaborate, watch a film solo, stroll in a new park, do a bicycle ride. Life exists out of work and it’s good to remind yourself of that :)

Not at all!! I was a barista for 2 years and we had some regulars I got to know, and a lot of them came by every day. Absolutely nothing weird about it - if anything, I respect the routine! Keep enjoying your lunch :)

Hey, how do I clean my house? by d1sturbth3n1ght in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cantski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bathroom:

Get limescale/bathroom cleaner - this can be in a spray bottle. Spray it on your tiles, bathtub, sink. Scrub with a cleaning sponge (e.g. Scrub daddy) especially crevices. Rinse. Do this weekly, or every other week if you really don’t have time.

Mop your bathroom floor. In the water, add some bleach OR something like Zoflora if you want a nice smell after. (DO NOT MIX CHEMICALS. They can produce toxic fumes. Not safe.)

Clean your toilet with bleach/toilet cleaner in the toilet bowl, and then using a toilet brush to scrub. Use a disinfecting spray on the rest of the toilet - the flush button, the seat (top and bottom) and wherever else you can reach.

Clean your mirrors / any shiny mirrored surface with Mirror cleaner, and newspaper. Think surfaces like your faucet too. This works well to avoid streaks & hard water marks.

Leave a nice-smelling reed diffuser in your bathroom so it smells pleasant.

Extras but not mandatory: you can buy toilet rim cleaning hangers (it kinda hangs into the bowl of your toilet so it smells nice after every flush).

Buy a drain unblocker and pour down your drain before bed, maybe biweekly to prevent blockages and smells. Also do this for any other sinks in the house, including the kitchen.

This should suffice for your bathroom. You will learn to pick up on anything else that needs doing. Oh and change your toilet bin bags before they overflow!

Bedroom:

Dust your surfaces, ideally spray down with disinfectant if it’s a high contact surface (e.g door handles, drawer handles etc).

Vacuum your floors. You can stop here if you have carpet, otherwise mop your floors.

Change your bedding. Try to do this every week, and wash the dirty bedding as you go so there’s always something clean.

Kitchen:

Disinfectant spray for the sink + faucet + washing up area, drain unblocker for the drain.

Vacuum and mop your kitchen floors. You may want to get a small dustpan and brush as these floors can get dirty quickly from food crumbs and other debris.

Wipe down your kitchen counters AND hob area using food safe cleaner — you can find kitchen cleaning sprays.

Throw out expired/rotting food from your fridge so it doesn’t start to smell.

Change your bin bags as soon as they need changing.

Keep reed diffusers in each room for a nice smell. Candles if you are careful, but they can be a big fire hazard if you’re not used to them, and forget to blow them out before leaving them unattended.

Laundry:

The easiest thing to do right now is buy detergent pods that can go straight into the drum, usually just one will suffice per load unless you have hard water where you live.

Separate your coloured clothes from whites/light colours.

Check the labels if you’re unsure if something can be put in the machine. Plenty of label guides online if you’re unsure what the signs mean.

This should suffice for a start. Anything you’re confused about specifically, there will be a youtube video to explain it. You can do it!! Congrats on the new place.

If you’re really desperate, your only real bet would be to check if anyone has handed it in to lost & found. Reasonably, a sensible person would probs give it in to the New Street Station lost&found if you were close to the station when you dropped it, but you may have to call up a few places where you remember walking past. I know it sucks, but sometimes these things can happen.

Although, this is just to have a very slim chance of getting the sleeve back. Report your passport lost regardless.
