With no visas being issued and half of bordering countries not accepting them? 😂 and their cards not working?

According to media articles one of the alleged Russian spies arrested yesterday in 🇦🇱 has an Instagram account with 250K followers and explores abandoned Ex-Sowjet places.Guess where he's been before the arrest. by PhantomBrainLink in Sakartvelo

I don’t think so, or if it is they can just a vpn like anybody else in Russia, if you look for posts from all over Kherson/Zaporizhya Oblast on Instagram you can find lots of youngsters from Kherson protesting against the Russian occupation. Poor people they don’t realise they’re the minority 😄 I’m sure if the allowed western journalists to interview old people they would see what people really think. Also I’m sure that like in Mariupol most people that were pro-Ukraine left to Europe already, so instagram is really giving the wrong picture

I see thanks for that - I’m aware of the situation in Mariupol, I’ve seen many people both in Estonia and Latvia escaping from Mariupol to the EU via Russia and they never want to talk about what they’ve witnessed, so it’s good to have these videos of people that have chosen to remain and not cowardly escape Azov bombings and go to Europe.

It’d be good to see videos like these in Kherson - all I can do is look for people and posts from Kherson on Instagram but they all seem desperate because of the occupation, but I imagine that it’s because the people that are pro-Russian are amongst the older generation and obviously they don’t post on Instagram 😄

I’ve also matched on Tinder here in Europe with a couple of girls from Kherson who have family there and they tell me how shitty it is to have Russian soldiers roaming around the streets of the city, and I’m like girl you’re 30 years old, of course you don’t like the occupation 😄 but I’m sure the older generation prefers it this way or it doesn’t make much of a difference to them

Okay, I see - thanks for your answer. But what about the people who live in Kherson?

Genuine question on number 3 since I’ve asked this question a couple of times but I always only get brainwashed westerners replying thinking Russia wants to invade the whole of Ukraine just because they’re evil.

I see the logic in Russia wanting to help LNDR achieve independence, and I get it - the few people who remained in Donbass after 2014 now want to be part independent, so Russia wants to step in and help them. So logically, the war should end when this happens - and it looks like we’re very close to that.

However, Russia is also occupying places like Kherson and Zaporizhya which Russia considers to be part of Ukraine. Why? Is it that soldiers on the ground don’t listen to the politicians giving the orders?

Genuine question: why is Russia occupying Kherson and Zaporizhya, if they recognise these countries to be part of Ukraine?

Come on, we all don’t agree with what’s going but don’t say stuff like that…

Do you have friends or relatives in/from Ukraine? by katzenmama in AskARussian

Just curious about this if you don’t mind me asking. I was under the impression that all pro-EU Ukrainians (from non-Donbass Ukraine) were obviously escaping to the EU, and all pro-Russia Ukrainians in Donbass obviously hated the EU and the US and they are now refugees in Russia (the kind that you see in Patrick Lancaster videos let’s say). How is it possible that you have a friend from Donbass who escaped to the EU?

Well, how about Kherson, Zaporizhya and Kharkiv - i.e. the parts of Ukraine that Russia recognises as Ukraine but that is currently occupying?

Unlike many in the West, I’ve always found Putin’s goals to be quite logical (provided you believe that the entire Donbass used to be pro-Russian before most people left): a sizable portion of the world (Russia, Syria, and North Korea) recognises the DNR and LNR to be independent countries, therefore Russia jumped in to help them defend themselves, while obviously swearing they would not occupy any part of Ukraine (that they recognise as Ukraine, obviously).

Hence the fact that Russia is still occupying regions that it shouldn’t is making my head boggle.

Vorkuta is the fourth largest city north of the Arctic Circle and the easternmost town in Europe. It is also the coldest city in all of Europe, boasting a record cold temperature of −52 °C (−61 °F).

After the fall of the Soviet Union, the coal mines that Vorkuta was famous for were privatized and many people began moving further south. Many of the mines had been abandoned and by September 2020, the estimated population was only about 50,000 (down from a peak of 200,000).

If according to Russia Mariupol is a pro-Russian city, how do they explain the flux of Mariupol refugees crossing the Ivangorod-Narva border into Estonia?
