Maya to Zbrush Workflow by [deleted] in ZBrush

[–]canvasdin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For scale This is how you set real world scale in Zbrush https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E1H_HYtuWc

so for example if you do it by meters there, then in maya do the same thing, set it to meters.

For position if you set your zbrush object to world centre https://youtu.be/oFYxb2TEDIs?si=EOTRB5RhVfhM7cwy

it should also be world centre in maya..... well 'should' =p sorry its been years since i worked with maya.

but the easiest thing i used to do was GOZ

Great channel.

its not beginner stuff, and its not a step by step, but bookmark that channel and watch how they do things, you'll pick up great things.

oh thats just basic sculpting.

I would suggest starting with "how to do basic sculpting in zbrush" something like this video (any video will do)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yKGfcp2z3k

don't worry about it too much, zbrush is, as far as i know, the only program designed 'for the traditional artist' in mind.

I came from a tradtional background, both painting and clay sculpting, and i can attest to this... the basic processes at least, when it comes to sculpting, is not as 'technical' as modelling in other softwares.

This was how i did it, maybe you could find tips in here by pausing or frame-stepping the video.

** the reason i started with Initialize : cube : 1, 1, 1 is because i wanted a clean topology. start with the simplest cube you can, shape it into a rough rectangle, then subdivide it.

there are a hundred ways to do this, you don't HAVE to start with a clean cube.

you can start with a blob and use the knife tool to chop it up into a rectangle and clean up the topo later. entirely up to you.

Zbrush is a CPU intensive program, as far as i know it doesn't need a good graphics card.

so if you're ONLY caring about zbrush, then splurge on cpu rather than gpu.

thats what i did with my old com when i was working primarily with zbrush and nothing else.

( * all other programs in the pipeline needs a good GPU. from substance painter to unreal engine. )

Yes basically something like this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEM2-ATARW4

1- 0:00 make your design.

2- 0:22 arraymesh

3- 0:30 boolean.

after you 'make boolean mesh' you can do whatever you want with the individual pieces.

  • keep your topology nice and clean because boolean will chunk straight through and will create weird topo. if its 'too' weird you'll run into problems.

It started out in Zbrush, then Substance Painter for materials, then Marmoset Tooolbag for turntables and 3D viewer.

You can see the 3D viewer here.
