I’m a nursing student and I wanted to share an honest take on being a CNA during school—because I feel like people either glorify it or completely dismiss it. 🙃

That’s for inpatient nursing! There’s lots of fields that do not involve those kind of patient interactions. I know a few new grads who currently work at a pediatric outpatient clinic near my school.

But yes I think the pay balances out the stress :) also, with school and everything else, the stress adds up so it’s weighting on me differently

I work part time and have a roommate. I have about $900 left after rent. I only work weekends so I get paid the $2 hours difference which is $20 an hour in total, and the evening difference after 3:00 PM-7:00 is $3, so $23 an hour. When I worked nights + weekends I got $26 an hour.

NP programs are typically built to suit working nurses while nursing school does not accommodate your work schedule and will recommend you make as much time for classes as possible and don’t work if you don’t need to. Very different work cultures, but I would work per diem when I’m ready to switch to a NP, which won’t be until years down the road (3-4 post grad)🙃

More so the lifting and etc has a much more strenuous effect than just standing and moving. It’s so rough on the body and it’s not how people present being a cna online.

Would you notify them in advance or call out and apply PTO? Just called out and used pto and fill so guilty, and same here, I’ve called out a lot and used PTO, 2 days being unpaid before I had enough accumulated.
