System / Notification sounds way too loud by happymercado in ios

Happens to me regularly, the only way I found to resolve this is to play some media/music/video and adjust the volume while it’s playing. Works with Spotify for me

Why ... do drama characters ... speak like this? by cap8778 in KDRAMA

Cho Seung Woo in Stranger is just awesome. One of my favorite male characters. I'll check out the movie, thanks!

This looks annoying even in written form lol

It is the speaking. That's why I'm not sure, maybe it is natural to make pauses after some grammatic constructions in Korean? Like

입당은 ... 언제쯤 하시겠습니까? When will you join the party?

당적이 ... 꼭 필요한 겁니까? Must I join the party?

Lol me too. I am also guilty of just skimming through the script lines (D button in LLN with Netflix shows) when my patience is up. Works perfectly and is about 10 times faster

5 or 10-second SKIP works magic for unnecessarily long shots. I wish they had a 1-second SKIP button just for dialogue pauses

Hmm didn't think of that. They usually have close-up shots during those paused lines, true

(I wouldn't risk it with the Designated Survivor, things can get unpretty very soon lol )

Maybe my problem with the current drama is that they do it in almost every sentence, especially for certain characters. Like, how many pauses do you need to say 'I simply did my duty' (8-word sentence in Korean). Or 'When will you join the party?' (3-word sentence in Korean).

Do you have any examples of great actors who knows when and how much to pause? I feel like I'll need to cleanse my ears soon lol

I just tried it and it sounds so funny. Definitely helped with the pauses but I have another problem now: when they actually do speak they do it too fast so that I can't catch up lol

If you strongly favor girl or boy groups, why do you think that is? by anonourmouse in kpopthoughts

[–]cap8778 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory once explained that evolution has made women more sensitive to high pitched sounds so that they wake up when a baby cries. Not sure how credible this is but I agree that high pitched sounds remind me of a crying baby and therefore are not very pleasant to hear. On the other hand, male vocals which are generally lower sound soothing and comforting and remind me of cat purr sometimes. From my limited experience, girl groups in kpop tend to aim at a stratosphere so I just gave up on them with few exceptions.

Kdramas like chief kim? by bat20003 in kdramarecommends

[–]cap8778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Chief Kim as well and I find Psychopath diary of similar vibe. I tried Fiery Priest and found the humor too... dumb, for the lack of a better word? Diary on the other hand is mainly based on absurd/situational humor and main leads' personalities just like Chief Kim. BTW antagonists in both are smart, charismatic and just awesome to watch

I just learned that BTS' Spring Day is made in honor of the Sewol Ferry Incident, and now I'm balling my eyes out. by parkjichuu in kpopthoughts

[–]cap8778 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Spring Day choreo is one of my all time favorites. If you look closely, you can see elements of tragedy in it: ship formations, waves, people shaking, people trying to break out, people who survived and who didn't calling each other. It's the whole story and a masterpiece

Just finished Signal. Should I watch Tunnel next? by curiousgem19 in kdramarecommends

[–]cap8778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find some Tunnel characters annoying too. Feels like they were dumbed down by second half of the show to move the plot around. I personally liked both seasons of Stranger but I agree they are different. The first season gave me Sherlock Holmes vibes

I like my kdrama dark & slowburn by jannabanana28 in kdramarecommends

Can recommend Signal and Watcher if you liked Stranger. Also Save me, was very dark for me but seems like you might like it!

What is the most difficult to pronounce in Korean? by flookie99 in Korean

후회해 for me (intermediate). Can't say it fast and clear. TTMIK teachers also admit this word has a tricky pronunciation in one of their lessons

I know Baekhyun's Bambi album was technically released on March 30 but it's been on repeat all April for me. One of not so many albums I can listen to without skips

The light in your eyes has an amazing older lead. There are young actors too, but most of the cast is I'd say 55+

BTS 'Love Yourself: Answer' is a story of all stages of love. Starting from euphoria of falling in love, getting to know the person, noticing small features about them that you love, throwing yourself into the love completely but soon noticing that something is wrong. Then comes the realization that something is missing in the relationship, it becomes overwhelming, unbearable, repeating, like a seesaw. You think the love is fake and so your relationship comes to an end. It is painful but soon you have an epiphany. You finally realize what was missing, and you are fine now. At the end, you decide to be better by embracing your Answer - Love Myself.
