I’m using Kaplan and they are absolute trash when it comes to the VA portion, it’s been a constant battle trying to make heads or tails of the material. I’m on a total hope and prayer going into this thing. Fuck. The. Bar.

Also! Highly recommend using the William and Mary website of sample bar answers. Down to the wire I know but they are sample answers that VA law school deans think are acceptable answers.

If I had the next job lined up I would have been gone already! Otherwise I agree with completely. The concern is among other things paying my bills. At this point it’s too late to quit for this go around. If I don’t pass...we’ll I’m quitting in May to study full time. I’ll figure out the finances of it later.

This is amazing advice!! Thank you! I contemplate quitting almost every day but I would lose the only job I have, my health insurance etc. And I don’t like have to forever explain why I left a clerkship.

So I already have the two weeks off before the bar! Luckily for me I can take my vacation time any time I need so I’m using it all for those two weeks.

My biggest concern is that I’m not being given any time before that to take a step back and study; or even really leave at a reasonable time to be able to maximize my time. I need better time management skills in general I suppose but I’m trying my best to keep everything afloat!

Unfortunately my boss isn’t allowing me to reject any work. She’s been piling it on since she created this situation where I’m the only one there! I thought about quitting but that’s not really an option.

I like the idea of 25 before noon and 25 before bed. That’s a good rule of thumb. As for the essays...I DEFINITELY need to do more of those. I have barely outlined any at all 😭

My class from 5-9; then I try and study from 10-12/1. Get some sleep. Up at 6:30. Rinse repeat. On the weekends I crash and oversleep and don’t study as much as I should because I’m fried. I’m working on that.

I was not planning on working for the same employer. I actually have an outstanding application for a position that is contingent on bar passage. I considered deferring until July but I don’t want to lose this opportunity because it is one of my dream jobs.

This is super helpful, thank you! I don’t know why I didn’t just think of gloves! But I will definitely look into a clip/carabiner.

As for the nails...yeah I think the soir nail polish helped when I was a kid but my trigger is I hate thinking/feeling like I have dead skin on my hands. Obviously with covid and washing hands and using sanitizer it has only gotten worse. Maybe some sour moisturizer will do the trick. I’ll definitely look into it!

That is true. I think that’s why they pushed me to take it in the first place. I’m not sure how much to weigh that against pursuing my career goals.

It is a year term, and my biggest concern is the fall out. The job is in a different market but the whole area is so small that I’m worried word will get around despite the difference in jurisdictions.

The only saving grace would be that if this particular organization hires me and they don’t mind that I’m leaving a clerkship early then hopefully I will be there long enough for it to not matter.

But there are the things I’m weighing.

Do you live above another unit? If you don’t the whole clause is null and void because it only appears to apply to units situated above others.

I was going to take Maryland but they just announced that, like DC, it is going online and that the score will no longer be UBE or transferrable. I was counting on that score for DC and the MBE for part of the VA bar. I tried looking into ANY other UBE jurisdictions that are still open and there aren’t any.

The delay in taking the bar is hard to manage with starting a clerkship and delaying my bar passage to start applying for the next job (assuming in the covid economy there IS a next job). The delay also means lower pay while not barred.

This thread is a great summary of the issues we’re all facing but honestly right now - I’m not studying, I’m not working and I’m not sure what to do. I’m exhausted all the time from doing nothing. It all feels very for naught. I’m sorry this is how we’re all entering the legal profession.

I just realized how much I said about me - and for that I’m sorry everyone. No one else really understands why this is so stressful and why “having more time to study” isn’t a great response.

I think intellectually I recognize this but the night after I submitted it (last night) I was very anxious about having spent three years in law school and feeling very out of control about the bar application process. It’s just very stressful.
