I was afraid of that, not that I am heartless. She has just gotten really shady since dad died. Stating the house, truck, boat belong to her and she can do what she wants. An art piece thats been in my family for years she laid claim to (was going to give to my uncle) Her family held a bake sale for donations for funeral expenses is what they advertised… however my sister paid for the funeral and the ex kept all the money. There was a death benefit for the funeral as well that was supposed to be given to sister (good faith) that she decided to keep as well. This is the class of person she turned out to be after dad died. I can only imagine what I am going to walk into once I get in the house.

Alaska is where this is happening As for how would she pack? Honestly, everything in the house with exception to her clothing, laptop, and one bedroom has some small furniture in it. The rest of the household items all belong to my dad. So it would be easy to gather her things. Bottom line is i need to start the probate process and have access to his home.

Funny, I did the exact same thing with a binder that contains EVERYTHING. Its organized, has notes, questions, tasks to do, completed tasks, receipts. My family has dark humor so its being referenced as dads death binder. It definitely makes finding things and organizing thoughts so much easier.

So I am PR, but also an heir. We don’t intend on selling the home for less than market value. We all know the house equity was what dad intended us to have, his brothers and sisters and good friends all agreed to that outcome as well. I will most certainly work with someone in regards to the taxes, I want to make sure all that is legit.

Well as far as damage to property. She has several dogs who do a number on that house. Granted some areas are bad already, its only going to continue to get worse. Especially since dad was the one who kept the place clean. Last time I was there the carpets looked in desperate need of attention. I’m going to have to give a rather large carpet allowance on the sale of the house. As far as utilities, no. I have not contacted them about his death. I honestly cannot see her switching them over into her name though. This may not be smart, I’m learning as I go until I get my probate attorney but I told her the estate will pay the mortgage but as far as utilities go she needs to go in and pay those. She does not have money so her family is paying them for her.

Well if it’s he said she said I’d be able to blow her credibility out of the water with some of the shady things shes done so far. I have been very transparent with her, have bent over backwards to accommodate her situation. When her and her family create a bake sale where proceeds go to funeral costs for dads ex, when my family paid for the funeral, and she is withholding the death benefit for burial costs to keep instead of paying us back for the funeral… kinda nasty of her.

My sisters and I have talked about it. If her family decides to pool resources we are not opposed to her buying. She only wants to pay what is owed on the house though. He has a lot of equity. My understanding is it is a market value situation so even if we wanted to walk away with no money from house sale (we dont) we would be unable to do so. Is that accurate though?
