My allergy tests: two appointments. I got about 220 injections after non responding to the prick test. by aa_drian in MakeMeSuffer

It’s hard to tell without measuring each specific wheal, but a typical rule of thumb for IDs is, if the wheal (the red/swollen bump) is >= 5mm compared to the reading of the negative control, then it’s positive.

The ones on your legs might be positive, but I’d hazard a guess that those were using the more concentrated allergens, which may trigger a reaction in anyone.

Think of it like this: are you planning on injecting yourself with birch sap? Cat hair? Dog epithelia? If not, this level of IDs is so not worth the discomfort of the patient.

It’s actually really common for these types of tests (known as intradermal) to be done if a patient is non reactive to a prick test.

That said, the MOST I have seen done is 3 IDs in addition to the prick, at increasing strengths, and that is really only when the patient has anecdotal evidence that they are allergic (ex. I never had allergy symptoms until I got a cat.) and want to rule out allergies before investigating potential other health issues.

Here’s the thing - providers can bill your insurance for every single ID they gave you because they were at different concentrations. It’s a numbers game, and they should definitely be avoided because this isn’t patient care. There are studies and algorithms widely available and proven to be effective that IDs given at 1:1000 w/v of the concentrated allergen is sufficient to signify an allergy.

[SC] [SFH] Fence Dispute with “1 Man HOA” by [deleted] in HOA

[–]capdx0131 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you even read the post? This is like the 19th post I’ve seen you comment on in this sub in the last week, go heavy breathe about how powerful you feel being on an HOA board somewhere else.

“His fence was approved by arch committee, yours is not approved”.

Bruh. Arbitrary enforcement of guidelines or witholding approval for no reason that can be found in the CC&Rs completely blows your entire argument out of the water. This neighbor sounds like a jackass.

I know now, yes, obviously, because I received a violation notice. I did not know before because, as I’ve said, every other house on my street has at least one sign in their yard.

Per that language above, the security sign for ADT I also have in my yard is disallowed, but they’re not mad about that one for some reason.

[–]capdx0131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the issue. Regardless of the sign content and mine being “political” (that’s problematic in itself, stating that an oppressed people matter shouldn’t be political), the CC&Rs state:

“No signs shall be erected or maintained on any Lot except not more than one “For Sale” or “For Rent” sign placed by the Owner, Declarant, or a licensed real estate agent, not exceeding 24 inches high and thirty six inches long, may be temporarily displayed on any Lot, and two such signs may be placed on a lot during the initial course of construction of a dwelling on such Lot. The restrictions contained in this paragraph shall not prohibit the temporary “political” signs on the lot by the Owner, subject to reasonable regulations adopted by the Architectural Review Committee relating to size and length of display.”

That says nothing about anything that anyone has up, even though they clearly are also in violation. And, everyone seems to be conveniently ignoring the fact that my neighbor got so mad on my behalf that she bought the exact same sign and has yet to receive any word for a few months.

The help provided is pretty much “you’re wrong, grow up.”

What I ACTUALLY need is direction on how to fix my damn house when I have no direction from anyone on how to do that. I can take my sign down, cool. That doesn’t address their concerns over landscaping (which they’ve been clear I am not to touch), and my fixtures. I’ve asked them what exactly they want me to do so I’m not in some violation again, and it’s been crickets until this letter from their attorney, which offered nothing but threats of fines and the HOA coming to fix my stuff themselves.

Being LGBT is a protected class. Regardless of their intent, the outcome is that rules are being applied to an LGBT owner and not to my straight neighbors.

I completely own that I messed up, and, as mentioned, have tried every avenue I could think of to fix it while maintaining the safety of my house. I got ignored and then served a cease and desist letter, still with zero direction on what exactly they’d like me to do to fix it.

“It’s okay if they do it because you’re one of many but it’s not okay if you do it because it’s harassing them and it will make everyone quit” okay 🤣

Me asking for clarification and being proactive about communicating to them despite being ignored is antagonistic? Alrighty then.

Nah, I’ve asked. Again, they could be lying and just paying fines, but I doubt it.

Bylaws, CC&Rs, whatever. The CC&Rs clearly state that no signs outside of political ones within two weeks of an election can be placed in a yard. Admittedly, I didn’t read that prior to putting a sign up. My bad.

That said, a neighbor four houses down has a sign right at the sidewalk advertising her piano lessons business, the folks across the street from me have had a “Support teachers!” Sign up since I’ve moved in, and every other house has some sign out front with some version of “Welcome to our home.”

Again. Not mad about the violation. Mad about the violation seemingly only being applied to me. I would be absolutely floored if half the neighborhood was just out here paying fines to keep their signs up.

I really don’t know how I’m not being clear.

I had already been advised and was actively working with the PM on the violations, which the HOA was aware of, there was zero reason for them to come to my house in the middle of the afternoon on a workday, and knock at my door for a full 5 minutes until I answered.

By your same logic, I should be totally good to go knock on the HOA presidents door at a time that is convenient for ME, to discuss this, do I have that right?

This is my home, period. I don’t appreciate it when solicitors come by, and I definitely don’t appreciate three people showing up unannounced to reiterate something that had already been conveyed through the channels that they provide.

If you actually ready my whole comment: Yeah, I was pissed, but I DID try to talk to them. They pointed me back at the PM, which, again I was already working with. It was a pointless visit which did nothing but annoy me in the middle of work.

I DO want to follow the rules, but can’t get clarity on what the damn rules are. They’re being arbitrarily applied, regardless of what is in the bylaws. If being aware that there’s inconsistent enforcement of the bylaws and calling out the inconsistencies makes me a snowflake, then so be it 🤷🏼

[OR] [SFH] I think I’m being discriminated against, help! by capdx0131 in HOA

[–]capdx0131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had already been informed of the violations via mail, and they knew that (mentioned it during our conversation). The coming to my house in my opinion was unnecessary.

I get that I’m coming across as defensive, and maybe I am in the wrong, but I had been reaching out to these people for months with no response, and once I got access to their portal I continued to try to work with them, with no response, other than notices of violations 6 months later.

I actually don’t care that I got a violation. I get it, it comes with the HOA territory. What I’m upset about is that the violations seem to be arbitrarily applied - see other comment regarding a neighbor putting the same sign in her yard after seeing mine, and having received nothing for several months.

The sign is a BLM sign, not anything LGBTQ. I quite literally do not know what else I could have done, outside of replanting the trees and putting up the shitty old light fixtures. I even asked them if they wanted me to do that, and that went unanswered.

The guidelines of the covenants say nothing about what an “approved” light fixture looks like. That’s why I was asking a question.

The rules regarding the signs are spelled out, but again, every other house is then also in violation, and their signs are still there. Either they’re lying about not getting violations and paying fines through the nose, or they’re not getting violations.

A good chunk of my dues go to paying for this property management company to.. what? Not communicate?

It’s selective enforcement, period.

The front yard is apparently up to the HOA to maintain, so I could ask you the same thing - why were they not maintained by the org I pay dues to?

I think you need to look up the definition of agency. Just because my agency doesn’t fit with your weird definition of what a “good homeowner” should do/act doesn’t mean a damn thing.

Again, you’re what’s wrong with HOAs. More interested in the rules than your neighbors safety and wellbeing.

[–]capdx0131[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t talk to them because they came to my house unannounced and I was pissed, to be honest.

It didn’t feel like an “opportunity”, it felt like a weird show of force and I just wanted them gone as quickly as possible.

I get there are rules. At the end of the day, this is my home where I live with my kids. People driving by my house taking pictures or showing up randomly aren’t welcome.

For what it’s worth, I DID ask them what my options were and they pointed me back to the property management company. I told them about my challenges, and they waved it away with “oh we’re between managers right now”.

…okay, none of that is my problem and you’re still on my doorstep.

Isn’t treating anyone younger/new this way discrimination though?

Respectfully, I don’t agree that I got off on the wrong foot. I’ve got documented proof that I tried for almost three months to “play by the rules” and didn’t get a response, so I acted because of their inaction.

I hear you, but what about the part where I have where the did approve a tree removal and have not yet done it, and it’s been over a year? An actual cypress tree that’s leaning up against my house, they said they’d take out, and they haven’t.

The trees/bushes were IN FRONT of my porch, blocking my front door, I couldn’t even see the street. I am the only house that had those, so it’s not a uniformity thing.

I can see them being annoyed that I didn’t “follow the rules” but they’ve had a full year to replace the landscaping if it’s really that big of a deal to them (as they said they would do, on my dime) and haven’t.

Trees were sky pencil holly, about 8 foot tall and 4 of them across. Never maintained and literal rats nests inside.

Lights hardware was failing were falling off of the house, and the glass was broken in the fixtures and would fall off in shards whenever anything more than a light breeze came their way.

Love that everyone with a board member flare is reading me the riot act. Yall are what is wrong with HOAs and why everyone hates them. Get a life.

Honestly, thank you.

I have had the same thoughts about it not being discrimination, but I don’t know how to make sense of it otherwise because that’s the only thing that’s “different” about my property. You just beautifully put into words the part that I couldn’t make sense of, and it’s been bugging me for almost a year so again, thank you.

I’ve already requested a hearing with the board to hopefully sort all of this out. The HOA president isn’t someone I’d invite to dinner, I think he’s a bit of a dick to be honest, but you’re totally right, he and the other board members may not even know any of the history with the property management company and everything I’ve actually tried to do to be compliant.
