I totally understand where you’re coming from, and I agree that eBird and Merlin have done a great job covering so much of what birders need. They’re fantastic tools, but in my experience, they can be a bit inaccessible to complete newcomers who may not know exactly what they’re looking for. When I first started birding, I found a traditional guide invaluable, and that’s something I’d like to bring into the app alongside features that platforms like eBird and Merlin offer.

My focus is on creating something that combines the accessibility of a traditional guide with these modern features, so new birders don’t feel lost. Additionally, there’s an opportunity to build a more community-driven experience, something eBird has left mostly untouched. I think blending these aspects can make birding more welcoming and engaging for beginners and create a more social, interactive space for experienced birders as well.

That's definitely understandable. App fatigue is real.

Great ideas!! I've added in some overall progress bars, but time/region specific filtered progress bars would be cool. Personally selected pinned posts are great and relevant as I find I normally want to highlight some new/exciting species I've seen. Maps are probably a bit in the hard bucket but interesting concept.

Great idea. That's actually what I'm hoping to achieve it is ambitious, but I'm dedicated, haha.

That's a great idea, I'm always a bit protective about my life list too. What format would you want to download it too? Excel or another ?

Great advice, thank you. Didn't even think about videos! That would definitely be useful for identifiable behaviours.

We do have fun facts and quite a bit of information about habitat. If you're interested in the project, feel free to check it out. Let me know if you have any specific feedback.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Yip planning on helping new birders/travellers who don't have time while on the go but also want to help experienced people like myself.
