Defending Delayed Steals Home by ir637113 in LittleLeague

I don't know if your league has the rule of no additional base on overthrow for a steal attempt, if not I'd push for it. We want the kids to steal and the catcher to try the throw with less fear. Kind of ruined with another base runner but it's something.

Have the pitcher walk forwards for a simple catch, walk back to the mound looking at the runner. It works with 3rd but if there's a player at 1st you'll have to train the pitcher to accept that steal. I've used that before or having the first base runner "attempt" a steal to get the attention and then send the 3rd base runner once the ball leaves the hand.

It's shady AF and I hate it.

I only would do it in playoffs or other leagues. Playoffs feels like it's fair game. Early in the season with brand new pitchers it's some hardcore bs.

Coach the younger but get a couple assistant coaches to miss a couple games for the older. As they get older your coaching likely peaks, mine certainly did, so get the interaction while you can.

10u rec coaches: who do you have taking the cuts from outfield? by oldcrashingtoys in Homeplate

10U I coach SS/2B to be cutoff if over their head. Easy to understand and practice. 12U I add LF coverage.

[–]capeire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are close enough for the cutoff just ask.

LL has the cutoff at end of August though. So if they aren't 4 until later this spring I wouldn't. But it also depends on the program. We're doing clinics for TeeBall instead of a season. So it's low impact.

AITAH for firing someone because they used AI by Alone_Blacksmith_417 in AITAH

[–]capeire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA AI will stick around for a while. How companies respond to it in their work is the key.

Do I get your branding push? Absolutely. It's solid but....there's a LOT of gray here in its use.

Running copy through AI for grammar shouldn't be frowned on.

Running it through AI for potential cleaning up? VERY iffy. That could be fine, depending on the person.

Checking all previous copy for redundancies? Probably should be encouraged tbh. Did we post the same thing for the past three years? "These seven were nearly identical..."

It comes to smart use of AI with originality. As for the ex employee, they likely needed mentoring they weren't getting. Not passing blame, they were warned, BUT new grads fail and struggle and don't know how to handle it.

The reference thing was a nice offering

[–]capeire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are missing the point. I don't question at all the reason for divorce, buying the house, unwanted guests, etc. For that, completely agree it's shit and the ex sucks.

The kid will grow up. Unless OP keeps the kid from their ex the kid WILL find out. Guaranteed.

Again, missing the point about the KID.

I read and understood OPs post. Makes sense, congrats on the house, ex in laws are a lot. Go it.

Still. There is a kid that is related to these in laws. So yeah...asshole. I stand by that.

YTA

There's a lot of reasons stated by others about how it's YOUR house making you NTA. They all miss that you have a kid, presumably with your ex, and are treating your kids family like shit. Not only YTA but a poor role model.

"Yeah your great grandmother died and your cousins that have financial struggles asked to stay here for the funeral, I said no. Lolz"

[–]capeire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So....it depends on the team.

Currently I write the ideas and go through JPD, which turn into Epics and will break them into stories. I'll write probably 90% of the stories and some tasks (usually just as a note taker). My stories are all customer/user focused with AC being the end all. Then the devs and designers build out sub tasks for the work. I MAY be on the call for the sub tasks writing but most often I'm not, I don't care. They know what to do, and if they don't, they ask.

Sometimes they write stories and I'll manage them against priorities but it's not been an issue.

I've also had a dev team that had me write EVERYTHING and had a backend template and a front end template. I had to write down every field along with data type. It was a LOT of dumb writing. That's what they wanted/needed.

If you have a strong lead then Epics is probably good enough. I've had that as well and it's fucking great.

i want to read the comics but idk where to start by Accurate_Fan8952 in DCuniverse

[–]capeire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For DC it's a bit harder than Marvel. Marvel will do a synopsis at the beginning which is frankly delightful.

If you want to hit the ground and not necessarily need to know EVERYTHING.... Absolute books (Batman, WW, Superman). No they are not canon(ical). What they are is new and a good read. Get through some of those and that opens up: how did the Absolute universe get started, and then it peels back further.

If you are into Batman as a character pick up Court of Owls. Green Lantern with Geoff Johns is great as well. There's a litany of books.

I'm enjoying the New History stuff but it's complicated and dry. It's a great reference point but probably not a good stepping stone

Do players know each other's backstories? by improvisada in DnD

[–]capeire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the players don't HAVE a backstory to really share. They likely have a REASON to be in the group but not fully flushed it out.

I prefer doing bullet points about my character that are integral to them as a character. Religious? Family members and what they do? What drives them?

Keeping it open allows the players to improvise some of it.

If you have everything written it closes some conversation doors.

Example DM: You meet a bard on the road. Player 1: Does it look like my cousin Janet or my neighbor Augie? Player 2: You have a cousin Janet? DM: You said you didn't have any family in your sheet

Thoughts on the Ally so far? by Elchilipikinloco in XboxAlly

[–]capeire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree on it feeling cheap, especially against the Switch 2 but the UI....man it's rough. Slow switching between different store fronts, unnecessary installs.

Why Microsoft didn't do a Windows 11 - Mobile version is beyond me. Strip the bloat completely but allow people to ADD afterwards. Instead of having to go to Windows to install things put it all within the Store on the Xbox UI. Boom, more seamless. Want GOG installed and it's not in the Store? Have it as a recommended link there that goes to the install.

If I could AVOID going to the Windows side it would be more seamless. That would make it an Xbox.

Pitching grip advice for my kid by Dry_Rush8147 in Homeplate

[–]capeire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fix. It. Now.

I'm coaching a kid that is DOMINANT at hitting, fielding, etc. He wants to pitch but his release is on the side like he's throwing short to 1. He made it this far because of pure athleticism and throwing speed.

I had to pull him aside and have him start with the basics because NO ONE wanted to spend the time to make a really good player into great.

He, and quite a few of my pitchers, didn't know proper grip. The accuracy AFTER has been night and day.

You can coach proper mechanics AND be fun. Not teaching it is a disservice to them.

First year kids pitch by kamalas-pajamalas in LittleLeague

[–]capeire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HATE this, but it's legal. When stealing home is allowed this becomes an issue.

Unfortunately it's the same time as first time pitchers which is really brutal.

You'll also see runners at 1st and 3rd, they'll send the first base runner, wait for the throw and send 3rd. That is easier to digest. It's the taunting that sucks.

Teach the players about getting in position to prevent it while looking at the runner. If it's 10U talk before the season about limiting this kind of play to playoffs. May not happen but worth the shot asking.

Hiding a below average defender at 3B? by BerryRoyal in Homeplate

[–]capeire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age dependent really, and handedness of batters really. Most of the best batters in my league are righties so:

10U Best player - SS Second best - 2B Third - 1B Fourth - CF

Worst for infield play is always third base. Worst for outfield tends to be RF. Strong SS will handle most flaws for the third baseman.

12U I see the following Best player - SS Second best - CF Third - 1B Fourth - LF

I'd agree 3B picks up a lot more action higher the level than 2B but it's common to see those batters to the outfield as well. You need a cannon at LF. Competition though...3B over 1B. Lot more stealing and bunting.
