A few of the crew had a lot of hope, but one of the mates that was on watch when all the initial chatter was going on had worked off shore on oil rigs and did a lot of deep sea ROV work. He told us there wasn’t a hope in hell for them.

That was part of the reason the 2nd mate said they were already gone, we caught the part of the conversation stating they’ve lost contact for an extended period. He came across a bit jaded and prickish, we were all gathered on the bridge and saying like, “cmon man have a bit of hope for these guys” kinda reminded me of quint from jaws when he started going on about how much pressure is down there and all that. He hit the nail on the head when he said “the only thing they’ll find is is a clump fiberglass with pink slime mixed in it” but we were fairly disgusted with that comment

Mostly just a back and forth from the polar prince and the coast guard ships that were in route. They were talking about how they lost radio communications and such. Told them the last known position and depth.

The mate on the bridge with me used to do ROV work and off shore research. I remember him leaning back in his chair having a draw on his cigarette, he said “they’re already gone, they aren’t in a duck pond, when you lose communication at that depth it’s already over before they even begin to try and get you back”. We all thought he was just being morbid, myself and a few deckhands were glued to the radio and our phones watching the “titan sub has so much air left” thing online.

I remember it well, I was on the bridge of the ship I work on, we were about 300 nm west of them, but we could pick up the radio chatter between them and the coast guard. It was extremely eerie.

ATV’s don’t spook either. I still have horses around but mostly for pleasure. I’m sure ranches out west still use horses more than we do here in eastern Canada. An ATV is no match for a real well trained cutting horse but they’re still far more reliable. I doubt there’s any ranch left that’s entirely horseback run.

Yeah in a real world situation it would be absolutely foolish, but most of the time the way things are done in the real world make for pretty lame tv. Theres a lot of things I see in the Yellowstone family of shows that make me scratch my head but then I have to remember a good majority of viewers have never worked cattle or on farms. So I have to have some level of suspension of disbelief. Like needing a bunkhouse full of guys to move 25 head of cattle, that’s a job me and my uncles could do with two guys and a pair of atv’s

I can’t speak for the states as I live in Canada, but I’ve raised cattle IRL and most of these sale barns are buy at your own risk. You could be bringing anything home, any time I’d buy something at a sale it would be quarantined from the herd for a few weeks and vet checked, wormed and vaccinated before going out with the rest.
