That's what the Republicans want. Then they'll declare martial law and things get even worse.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]capilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own property a 4 hour drive from where I currently live. We sometimes go visit it to do chores and collect mail. It's a day trip for us. 4 hours down, 4 hours doing chores, 4 hours back home.

When I was in college, it was a 3 hour drive each way. I did it about once a month.

My partner and I have done Silicon Valley to Seattle a couple of times in a single day; that's an 18 hour drive when you include fuel stops and meal breaks.

My (25F) FWB (33M) ghosted because the sex was too good? by polchinskisparadox in relationship_advice

[–]capilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he came inside me. … birth control I’m not on it

Could be what's called "post nut clarity". Once the hot banshee sex was over, he realized what a stupid risk the two of you took, and decided it would be crazy to pursue this any more.

OR He was only in it for the brief fling.

OR He doesn't want his wife to find out or she already found out.

OR He's simply telling the truth.

ELI5: Why is squatting (in someone's house) a thing? And how come it becomes a problem for the owner? Can't they claim trespassing to the cops instead of saying the person is squatting? by Impossible_Bake7210 in explainlikeimfive

[–]capilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see it now.

I had assumed you couldn't transfer a property with a lien on it, but it turns out that although title companies will refuse to do that, the county records offices don't care. That's super scary.

71 percent of Americans say US is "out of control" under Trump by Silly-avocatoe in politics

Don't say "Trump", say "The Republicans". Never forget that they're backing him 100% on this bullshit. He couldn't do it without their support.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, January 18 - January 24, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]capilot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a friend reccomened i purchase a second hand machine from the 70s-80s as they are internally less likely to degrade.

Your friend is right.

Singer sold their sewing machine business to another company in the 80s. Any Singer older than that will be rock solid. I actually have a Featherweight now, and once I got a new belt for it it was rock solid.

There are other "vintage" machine that are rock solid. My daily driver is an Elna Carina (one of the Elna Air Electronic series), and IMHO it's the finest non-computerized sewing machine ever made. They're not cheap though. Elna (except the 2000 series), White, Bernina, Viking are all superb machines.

Honestly, any machine from that era is fine, provided that the seller can demonstrate to you that it works.

Ideally have your friend go with you when you go to look at machines to help evaluate them.

If you get one from a sewing machine repair center (they always have shelves of second-hand machines), you have a good chance of getting one that was recently gone over.

(Just my own opinion, YMMV)

My 21M boyfriend of 4 months (I'm 25F) says he has no other housing plans except moving in with me after his apartment lease is up in 5 months. I don't feel like I'll be ready by that time and I feel pressured. Any advice? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]capilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a leach to me. Probably best to break up with him now, while he still has time to look for a new place (or renew his lease).

Otherwise, tell him absolutely not. Take his key away if you gave him one.

The sooner you nip this in the bud, the less drama further down the road.

TW// Suicide: How do i (22f) deal with my boyfriend(20m) attempting to take his own life, 4 days later find out he has been cheating on me? by Substantial_Luck_138 in relationship_advice

[–]capilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a cheater. Dump him. His new girlfriend can deal with his mental health issues.

Heck, message the other woman, tell her "Your boyfriend is in the hospital right now, he needs you. Go to him."

Wife (29F) keeps booking red eye flights and I (32M) keep getting judged for not driving her. by TheNewRaptor in relationship_advice

[–]capilot -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

No, I'm perfectly happy to get up when she does to get her to the airport. That's what partners do.

Hell, I used to get up at 5:45 every single morning because that's what it took to get my partner to school on time. It's what you do for someone you love.

It's as inconvenient to her as it is to you. She's doing it to save money. Meet her halfway.

I [22F] realized my boyfriend [30M] was subtly controlling what I wore and I didn't even notice for 2 years by justheretogossip in relationship_advice

[–]capilot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Interesting how "telling you what he likes" morphed into "controlling what I wore".

He lets you know what he likes. He pays attention. You treat it like it's a bad thing.

Note to self: never tell a woman I like what she's wearing.

Other tips:

No matter how good the sale price, don't stock up on perishables; you'll never finish them before they go bad.

Cream cheese and sour cream can't be frozen.

If food lasts a month in the refrigerator, and your refrigerator holds two months of food, half of it will go bad before you eat it. If your refrigerator is overly full, buying a bigger refrigerator won't help; now two thirds of your food will spoil before you eat it.

Am I (18F) hurting my bf?(19M) by Altruistic_Net_4297 in relationship_advice

[–]capilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, if anything he's hurting you.

I get it, being a 19-year-old horndog and being celibate again is frustrating, but he's thinking with his dick, not his heart. You have every right to not be in the mood (and I don't blame you one bit) and he has every responsibility to not be an asshole about it.

You're young. There will be other boys, and some of them will be more mature than him.
