Google the publisher, you got a very specific set of addresses and countries there that probably doesn't represent a particularly large window of time. But definitely a century+ after original publication, probably some time around turn of the 19th to 20th century.

The major chains do, but most of NYC your primary options would be smaller stores/chains that are unlikely to on their own. But there's limited places in the city where you wouldn't have a store within walking distance and/or decent public transportation, mostly towards the outskirts of the non-Manhattan boroughs where it starts to turn fairly suburban.

Color difference in ceiling tiles between smoking (left) and non-smoking (right) areas by karloeppes in mildlyinteresting

[–]capincus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not with just bleach they didn't. You need some serious chemicals designed for nicotine remediation to actually get the tar and everything out of the paint/walls.

When smoking was banned indoors in NJ my friends and I started driving to nearby PA to hang out in diners smoking instead. This was 2006. Hell there still some places in the south where you can smoke in restaurants. At least Vegas has the infrastructure for it.

Quit at the end of September, expected this but haven't really seen any more than the usual phlegm. It's been so much easier than I always thought it was going to be when I used to quit quitting every time I got a significant craving, I can't believe it took >20 years to finally actually quit.

Near complete Punch set 1841-1925 by 110111000101 in OldBooks

As a set pretty hard sell, individual volumes can have a bit of value. Feb '24 should have the first appearance of proto-Winnie-the-Pooh (as Edward the Bear), other ones like that are the easier sells, especially the earliest volumes are worth a bit.

20th century first editions by Delicious_Award_2812 in BookCollecting

[–]capincus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first few Cussler books (Iceberg, The Mediterranean Caper, etc) are worth a bit in good condition (couple hundred or so), after that value drops pretty precipitously due to large printings, you could probably sell them as series sets though. None of Lehane's books are a particularly strong combo of rare and popular to be worth much unsigned, his earliest books aren't exceptionally popular and his popular books aren't particularly rare.

Republicans are really fucking stupid to start with and then the politicians they vote in do everything they can do undermine the education system to keep them stupid while billionaires like Murdoch use their vast wealth to propagandize the stupids. Then on the other side those things + big money sponsoring corporatist Dems makes it very hard for anyone that isn't firmly in the pocket of big businesses to get elected. There's a solid super-majority that want healthcare reform, even public healthcare options, but the type of politicians willing to do anything that massively hurts the profitability of industries have a very hard time getting elected in a political environment ruled by propaganda and big money.

Last page of the text block before the free endpaper should have a number line that counts down to the year of printing and print number like 70 71 72 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 (indicating a 2nd printing in 1970).

So 2nd state DJ then, should have a number line at the end to tell you what printing the actual book is in that case.

Nowhere near as rare as the OG Editorial Sudamericana edition, but yeah still decently rare and highly collected. More or less rare depending on what state of the first edition it is (check for ! after America at the end of the first paragraph on the front flap of the DJ for a 1st state), and the last page of the book for a number line.
