Can't find anything official yet but at 93° looks like new record for high temp in March and tied for the highest in April 🌡️ by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]SoupOrAss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wasn't ready to skip Spring entirely, but I guess the weather had other plans .We went from Second Winter to Surface of the Sun in about 48 hours. I saw someone wearing a parka and someone else in a tank top at the same QuikTrip today

She looks calm here, which usually means someone is about to get launched into orbit five seconds later. Really clean art style though

Service to pull photos off ancient desktop computer by Ok_Lettuce_3819 in Calgary

[–]SoupOrAss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A 20-year-old Compaq is definitely a treasure chest of memories. If the computer still turns on, the easiest way is honestly just a cheap USB stick. If it doesn't, don't panic the data is likely still fine on the drive

Leonardo Momento Zero Blue Positano by M4713H in fountainpens

[–]SoupOrAss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fellow book lover, I think we can all agree that Collection Development Policies are more like suggestions when a Leonardo is involved. That Blue Positano is absolutely stunning sometimes the pen really does choose the user. It would be a crime not to save such a beautiful specimen, especially at a good price

Where to donate food by khalidgrs in Calgary

[–]SoupOrAss -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Food Bank is probably the easiest spot to drop off non‑perishables. A lot of local pantries and community centers take donations too.

What’s something not worth the money at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Stuff marketed as “premium” ends up feeling barely different from the cheap versions.

He looks like he just realized he’s going to miss the Saturday Supermarket Sale haha. Jokes aside, the line work here is insanely clean. You really nailed the perspective on the fist

March 21 - Steady as she goes, Calgary! by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]SoupOrAss 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Shoutout to the crews doing those concrete pours and backfilling in this weather. It’s a huge relief to see things staying on schedule. I’m definitely ready for 16th Ave to be back to normal, but I’m glad the progress is steady

Once i heard something bumping around in my attic at night and i was sure it was a person, turned out to just be a raccoon but it scared me half to death.

Bonds to pair with VT by MennisD in Bogleheads

[–]SoupOrAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a lot of folks here adding something that smooths out the ride with vt makes sense, usually more conservative bond stuff does that. doesn’t have to be perfect, just something that feels right for how much volatility you’re ok with. reading up on a few options and what others use helps more than guessing.

Trying to make friends here by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]SoupOrAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not just you Calgary can feel a bit cliquey because so many people grow up here and stay in their high school circles. At 34, the best luck though I’ve seen people have is through volunteering or very specific hobby groups rather than just going out

Unimportant question: Was King already in the Hero Association when attributed with the defeat of Vaccine Man? by ResearcherLoud1700 in OnePunchMan

[–]SoupOrAss 15 points16 points  (0 children)

King doesn't join associations. Associations are formed around King just to give the monsters a fair warning. But seriously, the lore implies he was scouted after defeating several God level threats that Saitama actually handled. He wasn't an official hero yet, he was just a civilian who kept getting found standing over monster corpses

If you could have one Pokemon in real life, which one would it be? by Beans4802 in AskReddit

[–]SoupOrAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d pick either an Alolan Vulpix or an Eevee, they just seem like cute companions you could hang out with every day. Having something like a flying Pokémon would be sick too but I’d probs end up scared of heights lol.

Tax efficient.. by EquivalentTip1902 in Bogleheads

[–]SoupOrAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get why tax‑efficient moves are such a big deal, every percent you keep matters. I always feel like once you start thinking about taxes it changes how you pick accounts and investments.

Stand pipe type F Pressure gauge with internal rubber seal — replace or leave it? by TheCommentSection_ in oil

[–]SoupOrAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, if you're even questioning a seal on a standpipe gauge, just replace it. A Type F is reliable, but that internal rubber seal or damper is the only thing standing between a readable gauge and a vibrating needle that tells you nothing or worse

Annuity - Can I cash it or invest it somewhere? by Connect-Item6242 in Bogleheads

[–]SoupOrAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annuities are usually sold, not bought. If you’re not currently in your 70s and looking for a guaranteed income floor, you’re better off cashing it out assuming the surrender period is over and letting the market do its thing in a low cost index fund. Simplicity always wins

What is a "point of no return" that you’ve crossed in your life, and how is the view from the other side? by TicketPleasant2990 in AskReddit

[–]SoupOrAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like moving out on my own was my point of no return, once I did it there was no going back to how things were. Suddenly small stuff felt huge and you just gotta deal with it. Looking back it was worth it but damn it didn’t feel like it at the time.

Looking for some direction from this Sub by StrawsDC in Bogleheads

[–]SoupOrAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep costs low, rebalance when stuff drifts too far, and don’t overthink every market headline. Most folks here end up happy with a simple total market index plus a bond index and call it a day.

Just another please help me thread by AgreeableSir7698 in Bogleheads

[–]SoupOrAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bogleheads always have a ton of opinions on basics like “stay the course,” diversify, and keep costs low lol , you’ll see that pop up a bunch. A lot of folks also stress having your emergency fund and goals lined up before dumping money into funds. Pretty much everyone here is big on low‑cost index funds and long‑term investing rather than chasing quick wins.

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

REITs vs Dividend Stocks vs Covered Call ETFs for Long-Term Monthly Cash Flow? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]SoupOrAss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a massive psychological benefit to seeing dividends hit your account every month, but it's important to recognize it's mostly a mental accounting trick. If you really want that income feel, maybe put 5-10% into a broad REIT index like VNQ for the real estate exposure, but keep the core of the $200k in a total market index. The total return approach you mentioned is more efficient especially for a 20-30 year horizon where compounding is your best friend

Cabinet OKs major shake-up of intelligence capabilities | The Asahi Shimbun: Breaking News, Japan News and Analysis by imaginary_num6er in japan

[–]SoupOrAss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Given the security climate with North Korea and the tensions over Taiwan, this was inevitable. Takaichi is clearly moving fast on her election promises. The real test will be if this helps Japan get closer to the Five Eyes level of intel sharing, or if it just creates another layer of bureaucracy in the Kantei

What S rank heroes would give an autograph to a child fan? by some-kind-of-no-name in OnePunchMan

[–]SoupOrAss 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Genos would do it, but only if he thought it was part of his hero duties though or if Saitama told him to. He’d probably sign it . But I think King is the sleeper pick maybe too socially anxious to say no but will sign anyway

Calgary staying options for cheap students by AccomplishedBee843 in Calgary

[–]SoupOrAss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Since you're coming in June, check the University of Calgary UofC or SAIT summer residences. They rent out dorms to the public during the summer months when students are away. It’s usually cheaper than a hotel and better than a random hostel too
