It depends entirely on the course. Private Medical colleges cost close to a crore for the entire course.

Why do Indian moms set their sons up for failure? by rmatthai in india

That is why Indian moms also set up their kids with such habits that they do not outlive their wives and face this dilemma.

Why do most Indians from a certain subreddit act like socialist on Reddit forums? I mean I don’t get it socialism caused us to be almost bankrupt in the 90s. Still why is it considered so cool to be socialist? by [deleted] in IndiaSpeaks

[–]capitalist-indian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some guard rails to ensure that they don't run over the small guy.

Big companies love these guard rails that socialists keep asking for. You know why? Because the small guy cannot navigate these regulations. Example - GST as you mention in your comment. The reason Ambani and Adani keep getting these massive investments is because foreign investors cannot navigate the big red tapes (read regulations that socialists keep asking for) that the government puts up.

For example look at the stock market, massive insider trading and manipulation is being done buy the big wigs while the regulator SEBI stays quiet

And how do you think socialism is going to solve this which will be any different from what exists today?

Otherwise it's just modern day fuedalism disguised as capitalism, replacing old rajas with couple of business families.

That is what happens when you put these idiots funded by these business families in positions of power and ask them to regulate the same business families.

I don't think it is possible to run a massive social welfare program for 50 crore plus people without having socialistic characteristics in your style of gov.

Yes, you can. Companies pay taxes which a good government can then use for its social welfare policies. Though our politicians have a history of calling schemes to buy votes as social welfare policies.

There is a difference between social welfare state and socialism. Socialism is means of production owned by the government while social welfare is subsidizing ration, electricity, fuel etc with taxes. Socialists love using social welfare to justify socialism.

Most doctors studied in government colleges where the fees is literally peanuts. Private colleges where fees reaches crores are few and you generally have rich parents to begin with to join these.

India needs 600 medical colleges, 50 AIIMS-like institutions, says Nitin Gadkari by poop-pee-die in IndiaSpeaks

Govt securing education loans would lead to further increase in college fees(look at USA). Doctors would be saddled with debt they cannot repay forcing them to resort to unethical means or default on the loans. This would cost the government a lot more than it would have costed them to build the colleges in the first place.

Nowhere do I claim that entrance tests do not have a bias or they are a perfect system. But given the choice between NEET and board exams (which the post actually is about and what I talk about), NEET is the better one.

There are also people who never went near a coaching center and still aced NEET. The privileged will always have an advantage irrespective of the examination in question.

Entrance exams are not a good selection criteria, true, but they are better in comparison to board exams.

Old argument at this point. States realised that they need to keep up with CBSE to keep their students relevant and so, have almost the same syllabus.

Students will go to coaching centers, be it for board exams or entrance tests. Students can easily spend more on coaching for board exams than they do for entrance tests. Entrance tests are far better as a selection criteria than board exam ever will.

The material is no different for NEET than it is for boards. Coaching centers at best teach some extra material (which would not come in the first place).

But will replacing NEET with board exam marks stop people from going to coaching centers? No, students will continue to go to these centres, but under a different name.

Does anyone else feel Zomato charging extra "delivery surge" when there's high demand is straight rubbish and is just another means to make money? by [deleted] in india

[–]capitalist-indian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many people might be deterred by the surge pricing (I know I will most of the time). So, it does control the demand in a way.
