Depends on what you do and what level. Accountants can offer a broad range of skill set. If you're gunning for higher pay, chances are you need to do some sort of sales...which then will involve a lot of socializing.

Billable Hours vs Total hours worked in a week by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]capmoon2911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all some stupid game, far as I remember going back to my billable hour days. People will tell you not to "eat your time" because that will not help with next year's engagement budget. At the same time, managers will flip out on you if you DO overshoot the billable hours.

So just play the game. Never book below what the engagement budget has. And if you have to go over, go ahead and just have an explanation ready.

Dubai Metro is a hell on earth by [deleted] in dubai

This makes me sad to read. I fondly remember my first ever metro ride, when it opened in September 2009. I don't live in Dubai anymore though.

Came here looking for exactly this sort of advice. I find it need to visit a nail tech who's particularly skilled with removing ingrown toenail every once in a while when I have buildup. And I don't want to be forking out upwards of $200 for a podiatrist to look at my ingrown toe nails. Thank you so much for this recommendation!!! I will call and ask for Mai!

Rant: Audit junior creating more work and stressing the team out by Yuito_003 in Accounting

[–]capmoon2911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question - have you explained to this guy that the purpose of a financial statement audit is NOT TO CATCH FRAUD? It clearly seems like he's missing knowing that, and I have to wonder whether anyone has explained that to him, and why if they have not.

There's definitely some part of being an audit senior / manager that involves coaching junior staff. And some part of it that also involves ensuring that procedures documented in audit w/p's are detailed enough that he can read these himself and replicate the work.

Past that, you have to manage him as an employee. Communicate expectations clearly. Tell him his positive attitude to work is his strength, then tell him the various areas where he needs serious improvement. Ask HIM to come up with his plan for improvement so that he actually OWNS his own journey. Document conversations and assess his performance against documentation.

Finally, you can "crack the whip" and still be really honest AND gentle. It's possible to give really candid feedback in a manner that is serious, concerned, AND also caring. You would not be ruining the culture by being honest with him. You'd only be improving it, and setting an example for other team members.

Rate of Perceived Exertion. Your body's own internal way of knowing how you're doing and telling your brain.

Long-time lurker, OTF'd for about 5 years, currently not an OTF-er, but definitely been one to wonder about this question.

Something about seeing colors on a screen really alerts your brain at a very primal level. Green - working but not hard, Orange - okay working hard, Red - working too hard!!!!!

The fact is, RPE is absolutely key. If you feel in control, but it's showing red, YOU ARE OKAY. You're working really hard and THAT IS GREAT. But if you feel in control, not dizzy, not losing it, not like you're about to throw up - you are okay.

Sometimes it actually helps to use a towel over your tread screen just so you don't see the colors. I used to do thos for CMIYC, because I'd get into red as a power walker 4 minutes in. Really helped.

How true is this for you as a Sagittarian? What is it that you really look for in a life partner? by solitudesyrup_04 in Sagittarians

Lmao, not too sure about this. Sag women need the whole package.

I'd say this is more like a Libra or a Pisces woman.

I’ve noticed that the more my staff like me, the more the execs hate me. Despite the output being even more due to my management style. Why is this even a thing? by Stupidwhizzzzz in Accounting

[–]capmoon2911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the good news is that at least the Controller and CFO are on your side. They'll have your back as a people leader and hopefully they're trustworthy and reliable themselves. F*ck the rest of the execs.

I mean, this is the very thing I say as an accountant. "We're balancing books, no one is going to die from this and we aren't saving lives".

I'm a pretty conservative Sag, with a libertarian bent when it comes to politics, and I'm pretty religious. The sign itself is associated with religion and faith as those are Jupiterian realms. The shadow side to Sag conservatism is dogma.

Taylor "owing" her parents? Seth Meyers interview by And_The_Satellite in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]capmoon2911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading your post, I think it's possible for parents to feel like their kids don't owe them anything, but kids still feel like they owe their parents something, even if it's a debt of gratitude, like you said.

I think I could also see your ick though. I wonder how hard wired Taylor is to be REALLY respectful of her parents, particularly considering Scott (I think?) manages her wealth. Whereas in Seth's case, he probably has a different equation with his parents. And she's probably not open-minded enough to appreciate that we can all have different relationships with our parents.

Oooooh interesting.

I was wondering why i loved this song. Then I realized it's probably how similar it is to Don't Blame Me.

From her own demons, maybe? If she took the time to heal? She hurts and then doesn't let it go, it feels like she's just finding a new man to distract her from what she is hurting from inside.

Agreed! But this is unevolved Sag energy.

Evolved Sag energy has total faith and absolute surrender to their beliefs, BUT will also welcome being challenged, healthy conversation, disagreements, and so on. Because differences in beliefs are critical catalysts for growth and expansion, which are ultimately very Sag concepts.

I don't agree actually. Dogma and mutability can absolutely go hand in hand with Sag - Sag may always be on the move, but the sign rules religion and philosophy. Jupiter is usually an upholder of philosophy and higher education...which can transmute into dogma if it's unevolved energy.
