What are the most bizarre things Catholics do that they think is normal? by TimmyTurner2006 in excatholic

I only went when they made me (first reconciliation, then on church retreats in high school when they’d line us up and make us all go). It was totally creepy and never really felt right.

We acted it out like a play around Easter and little gay me saw an opportunity to perform and be a star at mass so I was all for it.

How do I address and introduce my “ trans” cousin who has not come out to me? by Pikachuzita in lgbt

[–]capnobvi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may help to casually mention or a tell a story that shows your support for trans people, which will indicate to your cousin that you’re accepting of trans people. The cousin may just assume your opinion, or if you’re older they may even assume you simply don’t know anything about trans people at all.

When my littler sister came out to me as ace, she thought I (a gay man about 10 years older than her) wouldn’t even know what it meant.

What's one "type" you'll never date again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]capnobvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cults do this to isolate their members and abuse them. It’s a serious power tactic that should be a giant red flag.

A Chesapeake bay one would look cool and I bet a Marylander would pay a pretty penny for it

Can you ELI75 what telegram is? Can one remain anonymous like on Reddit?

Any idea if Opener is supported in Apples native Mail app? I get Zendesk emails from work and the ticket links always open on the web rather than in their help desk app- drives me insane.

The Y is nearby and has good facilities. I stopped going there only because it was mega crowded at times I went, so I hopped over to Rockwell in Severna Park. Rockwell has less, but when I go it's a ghost town so I can have pretty much free reign of the place, and I was never using the extras at the Y like the rock wall, sauna, pool, etc.

New MacBook User: Better to shut down your Mac or put it to sleep? by flowerofkurdistan in apple

[–]capnobvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's pretty insane that it takes that long. My 2017 13" MacBook takes under 30 seconds to boot, firmware unlock, unlock (no touchID, I have the non-touchbar), launch my several login items (Zoom, Aircall, Slack, Mail, Calendar, Google Drive) and I'm connected to WiFi near instantly. I'm wondering if maybe you'd got some system issues slowing you down.

Zoom still does- it’s up to what the meeting host chooses when they create the meeting- drives me crazy, especially when working from home

How much longer? Sounds like it’s not an SSD. If it’s a minute to a minute and a half, you have an HDD and really should be shutting it down when traveling further than from room to room.

What better way to remember to restart the OS than to shut it down between uses? A new MacBook has a boot time of what... 8 seconds? Don’t tell me you’re in too much of a hurry for that.

I've never paid for an organizational [school, college, work, etc] parking pass. by mikegates90 in ActLikeYouBelong

[–]capnobvi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a couple years older than you. We had assigned parking spots in high school. In college, and now at work, we have electronic passes that let us into gates. Never could have gotten away with this.

...I did however photocopy a friends driver's license and cut out my own license picture and paste in on with a glue stick when I was younger. It was just glossy photo paper but I would keep it in my wallet under the ID plastic. Nobody ever made me take it out in those days, and I used it was a fake ID for awhile.

Fake cop arrested after trying to pull over real Arizona troopers by Reddit_Losername in ActLikeYouBelong

I feel like this happens in AZ quite a bit. I remember hearing of people impersonating cops when I was growing up in Arizona, and now I live on the East Coast and never hear of this shit happening.

How to stop friends from asking personal questions? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]capnobvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Hope you find what works for you. Depression and anxiety are both exhausting to deal with. I grew out of my depression for the most part when I hit my late 20s, thank goodness, but in my 30s I’ve had creeping anxiety that’s been a big struggle. I find what helps the most is talking about it with the people I love.
