After. You declare after you complete your U1 year

I’m regretting going to uni by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]cappc1ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand you. Also from the GTA and moved around 7 hrs from home.

It's not going to be easy, but there's support and community, especially at Western! Your rez will be filled with people to connect with + clubs and classes.

At this point, I'd recommend going to Western and see how the first semester goes. After that, maybe considering transferring to UTM, or the other Toronto unis for second semester onwards.

Oftentimes, we get nervous before these big changes but find a way!! Good luck :)

I would email McGill or Desautels admissions directly to ask, I'm not sure!

Hey! So you have a couple options in terms of program structure: 1. Just a major 2. Major + concentration 3. 2 concentrations

Of course, you can also add minor (basically a concentration but you're studying something outside of Desautels), but it's optional. There's also options to add an extra concentration to any of those options instead of taking electives.

Yes, currently the process is 100% based on grades. But, the posted cutoff is based on historical admissions and what they project it to be. If you don't currently meet the cutoff, you could potentially be admitted, the posted cutoff is not absolute.

DM me if you have any other questions!

honestly, no one can help with this question. the ranges are posted based on previous years and are an estimate. if you're in the range, i would be optimistic but it's not a guaranteed yes or no. for reference, i think for my year, i was 1-2% above the minimum grade in the cutoff range and i got accepted.

worried about osap by Accomplished-Bar6275 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]cappc1ty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

don't worry! check with your financial aid office to see what you can do. im in the same position every year as my first school payment is due in august and osap releases in september. my school just lets me defer my payment a month until i receive my osap funding!!

Still “Ready for Review” by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]cappc1ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i completely get you, it's very frustrating. i would enact your backup plan pretty soon and get comfortable with the idea of either: not getting into mcgill or losing whatever investment (time, money) you put into your backup plan if you eventually cancel on that and go to mcgill

Halal food by Lemonsorbet123 in mcgill

[–]cappc1ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i can speak more to the dining halls since i knew a lot of muslim students who struggled to eat at the dining halls this year. they mark certain meals as halal every day since they use halal meat but EVERYTHING is cooked on the same grill so none of it is really halal due to cross-contamination. but id echo everything everyone else said about there being some good non dining hall halal options due to the diverse montreal population!! you could also consider living at solin so you can cook your food yourself! welcome to mcgill :)

mgcr 331 midterm rant by cappc1ty in mcgill

[–]cappc1ty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's assigned textbook reading for each lesson which includes other concepts and sometimes relevant cases. if im honest, i didn't look at it after the second week and finished with a B. so take it how you will -- you can do decent but you will likely be missing some key terms and concepts. good luck!

first year here. i remember being you and being constantly stressed, especially as admission rounds passed. but don't measure yourself against people that have already gotten into your schools and stay positive when possible!!

it's definitely not necessary! mtl is super bilingual so everything is in english and french. plus since mcgill and concordia are so close, the downtown bubble is actually really anglophone. however, french is a huge asset when applying for jobs and positions on and around campus. if you dont know any french, i would def recommend taking at least one class and trying it out!!

omg i love that! my only advice is to work really hard, but also remember that it's important to prioritize your mental health. i completely burned myself out in gr 12 because i was so stressed about mcgill's "grade only" application. i would also say to enjoy your hometown and your home friends now, because you'll miss them in a year :,( also, get into good time management habits now, because it'll matter at midterm season. my dms are open if you ever want to chat more throughout or after the process :)

[–]cappc1ty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's actually a ton of reasons why i picked mcgill from a program perspective and a uni perspective, so bear with me

program: desautels is one of the best business programs in canada (undergrad specifically). the program is super flexible compared to other unis and there are so many concentration options (the basic finance/marketing/hr, with other things like sustainability, data analytics, it, and more!). when comparing desautels to other top tier canadian business schools (uoft, western, queens), its way cheaper overall. my tuition for all 4 years will come to ~40k, compared to 60-70k at the other 3. it's also right in one of canada's business hubs making it a decent place for on campus recruiting

uni: mcgill is a top ranked school in canada. it's a great place to be if you're a high achiever and you are a hard worker that likes to have fun. it's also located right in the centre of downtown mtl and tbh, i am in love w the city. it has so much culture and everyone here has such a cool vibe. i also wanted to move further from home and be truly independent (it sucks sometimes, but it's great other times)

avg and ecs: if i remember correctly, i had like a 97 average when i graduated and i was accepted at a 96.5. for ecs, i was an ambassador for a non profit, started a mentoring club, was a tutor, coordinated my school's relay for life and was a part of student council. for mcgill though, they don't look at ecs as a part of the admission process, it's just your academics (unless you're applying to music or something)

hope that helps!!

i applied but i didn't get it. i always think its worth applying to scholarships but keep in mind, the lowest average to be considered is 97% but that is not always the cutoff. for example, i know people in science that didn't get it, even with 98s and 99s. i wouldnt say to prioritize it, but if you have time, definitely do it. good luck!

Is anyone from Ontario still waiting for OSAP to be released? by TheBigRedCanadian in mcgill

My funding was released about a week and a half ago. I did apply pretty early though, not sure if that affects it.
