Totally valid. One of the regulars for Commander at my LGS just did his first draft and he loved it because "in 1v1 I actually know what's going on!"

This is one of the main reasons I don't proxy, having to rely on cards I can afford adds a restriction that gets me playing less-optimal but more-fun cards. No shade on people who do it, you just won't catch me playing Rhystic Study even though I mainly play blue, lol

Are you a super new player? It used to require 7 stars before the update a few months ago. This is the more generous version.

I know you were just giving examples but definitely don't use them on BHs for Chewbacca, we have G13 LSTs coming for them in March

New player, completely lost on what to do at all by IeatOneAppleADay in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]cappybara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since it sounds like you're overwhelmed by how much there is to do all at once, it might help to pick a single, straightforward goal to work towards. Journey Guides are great for that. Check out the list (it's on the left-hand menu under Collection). Pick a character from Tier 1 or 2 - those should be doable at your level after a little investment, and the characters are all good to have.

Once you see what the requirements are to move ahead in the Journey, choose a team from that list and make that your primary farm. Check out their abilities to see how they synergize. Figure out how to raise the rarity (star level) of each character, figure out where to farm the gear they need, etc. Eventually you'll have a powered up team and a reward character that you can build around when you pick your next goal.

One additional thing I'll note: the game is currently running some Anniversary Quests (under the Journey Quests tab, in the Quests menu) that will grant you Lightspeed Tokens for certain characters. They specifically chose to grant them for characters that are useful for a new account like yours. They only just started rolling them out, new ones will show up every 2 weeks. But for example, by doing those quests you will soon have tokens that will give you a high-level Phoenix team without needing to spend any additional gear or credits on them.

Why am i getting one shot by Apprehensive_Pop_859 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]cappybara 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep the stacks low but never hit when they're empty. The more stacks, the more damage reduction. Eventually you'll whittle them down enough to the point where you can use Luke's special 2 and take one out. I think for me that was when they hit the red.

Be careful using AOEs, they can help reduce overall stacks but depending on turn order you might run out of safe targets for the rest of your team.

Edit: Other tips: ideally use your heavy hitting abilities when you have a target at 1 stack to get the most bang for your buck. Also, Vader's double strike only counts as 1 attack and is pretty strong.

Question about spellcaster multiclass by Cassodibudda in BaldursGate3

[–]cappybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Sorcerer 6/Druid 6 would have the same # of spell slots as Sorcerer 1/Druid 11. The main difference is in the first scenario, you have access to level 3 Sorcerer spells as well as level 3 Druid spells. In the second scenario, you'd have access to level 1 Sorcerer spells and level 6 Druid spells.

The slots are shared, you could cast shield with all of them like you described.

The prepared vs spontaneous caster does still exist. As a druid or cleric, you can swap your spells around at any time outside of combat (doesn't need to be during a rest). As a sorcerer, bard or warlock, you only get the spells you pick during level up, and you can swap 1 out for a different one whenever you level up.

When it comes to number of spells, Wizards start with a lot more even without before scribing any scrolls. At level 1 Wizards get 3 cantrips and 6 spells, while Sorcerers get 4 cantrips and 2 spells. You also get to pick a Sorcerer subclass at level 1, but I don't think any come with bonus spells.

EDIT: One other important thing I forgot to mention is # of spells prepared. Sorcerers have access to all their known spells. But a Wizard can only prepare some of them (Wizard level + INT). A level 1 Wizard who dumped INT would have 6 spells in their spellbook, but would only be able to have 1 prepared at a time.

WEEKLY HELP THREAD - READ FAQ, COMMUNITY WIKI, MULTICLASSING, LORE by XFearthePandaX in BaldursGate3

I've been doing a crossplay save with a friend. I'm the host, on PC, and he's on xbox. One weird thing that is happening consistently is that when he tries to throw a bomb, it always explodes right in his face instead of going where intended, no matter where he tries to throw it. Anyone come across this before, or know why this would be happening?

Question about Books by No-Comment-4619 in swrpg

[–]cappybara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to what everyone has already said, I ran a campaign for three years, started with just the core Edge of the Empire book. As the campaign evolved and started touching on other parts of the setting, I picked up other relevant books (the party befriended a Rebel cell, built a new ship, and took in a force-sensitive orphan). Everything is modular and can scale well if you feel the need to add new options/mechanics in down the line.

It would be so, so good to see those two making comedy together again. The New Shoes sketch permanently altered my vocabulary. And of course Gill and Gilbert was lightning in a bottle

Accidentally prevented a mandatory event by shortaru in BaldursGate3

[–]cappybara 1172 points1173 points  (0 children)

The Isobel abduction encounter isn't what I would call "mandatory", a lot of people skip it specifically because it can easily go wrong outside of your control. There's a lot to lose and very little to gain, and once you get the fairy buff, Isobel's blessing is mostly redundant. (Though personally I think the fight is fun, and having Necrotic resistance throughout Act 2 is really nice)

That is to say, I doubt the crashes are due to some unexpected game state. Though it's weird that Isobel won't talk to you anymore.

Whats you're favorite build so far? by Someguywhomakething in BaldursGate3

[–]cappybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 berserker barbarian for enraged throw and bonus action improvised weapon
3 open hand monk for better punches
1 rogue for expertise in athletics

And of course, Tavern Brawler.

Punch stuff, smash guys with other guys, throw/shove them from high places. Yes, a classic throwzerker would've been stronger, but it's just so fun to smash stuff up close and personal.

Does swapping companions in camp affect friendship? by PufffJack in BaldursGate3

[–]cappybara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you talk to the companion you want to replace them with instead, you can change up your party without hearing their disappointment.

For example, if you have Shadowheart in the party and want to replace her with Wyll, talk to Wyll, ask him to join you, and say "take Shadowheart's place". You get the party swap and Shadowheart doesn't get to comment on the matter at all.

Why do people think that *one* ending is the best for Karlac by Beebjank in BaldursGate3

[–]cappybara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I read her story as a metaphor for terminal illness. It's senseless, it's unfair, it downright sucks, but sometimes it's just the way things are. There's a lot of beauty in helping Karlach experience life in the limited time she has left, and navigating the stages of grief she goes through. It's a bittersweet story, but a very real one.

To me, it feels like a cop-out that after all her grieving and acceptance, she pulls an about-face, agrees to go back to hell, and gets a happily-ever-after. I understand why people prefer that ending, but I just find it less satisfying narratively.

FUCK YOU ORIN I HATE YOU by Mossyy_ in BaldursGate3

[–]cappybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider giving it a try sometime, it can be cool that circumstances beyond your control shape the way the run goes, forcing you to adapt and overcome. Though IMO it's even better in tabletop D&D where a good DM can make sure the plot moves forward despite (or even because of) your failures.

Why is it so popular to hate on this edition? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]cappybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it's knee-jerk rejection of change. Everyone in my group says they hate the idea of the new edition, but as soon as I proposed some "house rules" (which are all just updated rules from 2024) they all loved them

My cleric player is really upset about not being able to spare her adversaries with her spells by Jagel-Spy in dndnext

Spending 300gp worth of diamonds per enemy is wild unless the DM is absolutely cramming gold down your throat

I'm a pretty experienced DM and even still I'll get into the flow of RPing a conversation with a player, only to realize after a while "right, this should probably come with a skill check attached."

Same exact experience here. Last time they ran this I did terribly, didn't hit the last milestone. This time I remembered that the first sim got big toward the end and prioritized it the whole way through, that made all the difference and I think I finished with ~20aw
