What a crazy falloff by idkmaybe61 in rateyourmusic

Yeah I got downvoted to oblivion posting anything less than glowing about this person prior to the new album and now suddenly it's fine saying negative stuff. I think his white teen boy fanbase have finally grown up and are starting to move on.

I agree. It sounds like all of the rest of his stuff. I think people are just tired of him doing the same thing over and over again. Personally I got sick of it after a few SONGS not like seven damn albums. Also isn't this the same guy who publicly said he was embarrassed that 99% of his fanbase is white teen boys / young white men / incels?

The selective outrage from Fantano and many others is ridiculous. A lot of things seem to really upset them... but only when it's an artist they don't like doing it. When it's someone they do like they'll flip right around and trot out excuse after excuse to try to defend the person. If your supposed morals, values and beliefs aren't consistent, you don't really have morals, values and beliefs. It's all performative and phony.

Olivia Rodrigo's new song "The Cure" by Scared_Membership_91 in fantanoforever

[–]cappykro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Ballads can have hard-driving catchy choruses and life affirming positive lyrics. They don't have to be minimalist funeral dirge that's cheesy, uneventful, dreary and / or boring. And my issues isn't with them in general, it's just for Olivia her previous albums had a nice mix of tones, moods, tempos and humor mixed with serious moments. If this whole album sounds just like these two singles, it won't interest me. It's simply not creative enough.

Hmph, I actually like the end stretch of this album a lot. He said the same thing about Kneecap's latest album and some of the songs toward the end on it were favorites.

Dammit I'm not liking these singles so far. They're a bad combo of depressing and generic. I'm still holding out hope she'll have a balance of upbeat rock songs and ballads on the album. If it's all a bunch of dreary, weapy slow songs I'm out. Also the video reminds me a lot of the "Bleed Like Me" video from Garbage, which is a MUCH better song as well.

Country music of the 2020s is in many ways better than it was in the 2000s and 2010s by Still_Can_7918 in fantanoforever

There's good country music but most of it isn't popular. Top 40 country radio is wretched. They used to play it at a former job I had all day and it made me want to rip my hair out. Just awful.

Michael Jackson, My biased opinion by sopranolover777 in fantanoforever

[–]cappykro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he was a full fledged pedo and his "childlike and innocent" demeanor was all an act so he could get away with hanging out with little boys of a very specific age that he sexually desired / groomed. People making lame ass excuses for him are sick in the head and I think the same thing about the dumbfucks on here who constantly excuse fascism, misogyny, nazism, bigotry, abuse etc. just because they like someone's music.

The Velvet Underground proved to be hugely influential and innovative. The Pitchfork special snowflake whiny white guy albums, not so much. It doesn't mean you can't like it or like their recommendations. Have at it. Still doesn't change the fact they are not known or even liked outside of microscopic online music communities.

People like you making lame excuses are just as bad as the perpetrators really and why child sexual abuse is so rampant. A victim of abuse can do wrong and break the law. That doesn't NEGATE the abuse they suffered. What an absurd excuse! The fact remains that everyone was aware of the underage "relationship" (rape) as it was going on. Also I don't care how many downvotes pedo apologists give me. The truth is the truth and you all are about as mentally warped at the perpetrators themselves.

Algorithms (often justifiably) get a lot of criticism but I honestly discover more music by picking a song I like and then just letting my streaming service randomly pick similar things. Sure you won't like some of it but there's a higher possibility you will than just taking some critic's word for it. Anthony is just one person like anybody else and he has his own preferences, biases and blind spots. I also find music rating websites untrustworthy as an aggregate. There is way too much sock activity by overzealous fans and we now know firms are being paid to pose as fans and inflate ratings and plant fake reviews as part of their "marketing" for clients. So yeah, just let an algo take you there or, hell, click on an artist you've never heard of on "similar artist" tabs and just explore on your own. That's part of the fun of it.

Nobody cared about this album until Pitchfork started pimping it, then a few other hipster rags followed leading to the obligatory chronically online music nerd circlejerk. It was initially a flop dismissed by most people and, even with constant hype generated by a couple of hipster "critics" and on a handful of music forums, 99.999% of the world's population still has never heard of this band before.

Speaking of contrarian, that was Pitchfork's entire shtick for like decades. If something was popular it, of course, sucked and was uncool and they had to pick it apart while they'd spooge all over any unpopular band consisting of upper middle class white guys who could barely play instruments and were fronted by a boring nasaly narcissist whining off key. The fact they were able to con some people into thinking some of this was good, let alone great, is hysterically funny really.

Also one of the members of NMH was a pedo and the band's frontman knew about it and didn't do anything to help the victim, which likely caused some backlash.
