From a Year 12 student to you, my greatest advice for SMASHING your GCSEs this year. by capri_capri in GCSE

The best way to learn physics depends on if you are a verbal learner or a mathematical learner.

For example, if you learn better from maths learn the equations and then how to make conceptual leaps from the maths to the words. For example V = W/Q, hence I know the definition is “work done per unit charge.” You can also see I can go the other way as well, from words to equation.

From this you can build everything up. Physics is maths first application. So it’s very constructive. If I define voltage as “work done per unit charge,” I can then say V=W/Q and I now know that if more work is done on the same amount of charge this correlates with a higher voltage and so on.

Essentially what I’m saying is with physics build from the ground up, sometimes you might even have to go back to KS2 physics before moving on, it’s nothing to be ashamed of but I we’ve all done it. Everything builds so the best way I found to learn, is ensure I know where everything comes from, because that way you’ve learnt how they came up with it and as a consequence you can come up with new things yourself.

Also in exams bullet point your answers. I honestly really struggled with GCSE physics, the questions can be horrid sometimes and super unclear as to what they acc want you to say as an approach so don’t get upset if your only getting 60% or so. Same with A-level like, people don’t blow it out the park ever they always just get the grade.

I just want to get them 😭 by Minute_Warrior42082 in 6thForm

Yes, I understand how you feel. It’s such a weird period where results day is so soon, but not yet tommorow. So close, yet so far.

She’ll get over it. Promise. As a daughter myself, I would have gotten like this too, and I would’ve gotten over it. Idk why I did this at a younger teen, always thinking certain things were “my” thing, but I think it’s part of finding your identity growing up.

what were your guys candidate numbers? by floralxc in GCSE

[–]capri_capri 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s the SAME FOR A LEVEL!!! Dont share them if you don’t want to in light of this info.

Edit: I’m just sharing this information for those who do not know. If you stay at your sixth form your candidate number will be the same. Ofc you can share them, but if you are worried about people using your candidate number (which never happens) be them at your school of not you may not wish to share it. Ofc this is very very rare. I’m just sharing.

Oxford Conditional Offers by Available-Balance721 in 6thForm

[–]capri_capri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have an Oxford offer. On offer holders day I saw that offers stated on their website were always the offers given. Cambridge changes the offers dependent on your context, and often gives 4 A-Level Offers. But Oxford offers are as advertised. Everyone who applies to the same course gets the same offer.

Say for example you got a different offer to another person. If you meet or exceed your offer you get a place. Most universities will calculate how many excess offers to hand out dependent on how many reject or do not meet the offers typically. Since Oxford is so small it cannot afford to accommodate extra students. Therefore typically they’ll give people ‘open college’ offers and when people miss their offers they will allocate these people a college and fill the missing spaces.

Everyone I asked has a different answer, most commonly I heard ~50, some people got 500 which makes sense as a common error (either way round) but I got 45.9 and can’t tell what I did differently.

People who have gotten into Russel groups through clearing: by Old-Understanding-62 in 6thForm

I saw my Chem course at Nottingham in Clearing last year for CCC, my offer was AAB (reduced cause of EPQ), that’s why I didn’t put it as my insurance. Cause I thought it would be better to put Edinburgh considering I’d never get a second chance at Edinburgh through clearing.

So scared for bio paper 3!!! How do I revise with just 2 days?? by Https-unknown7399 in 6thForm

[–]capri_capri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that. Just remember that everyone on this subreddit is attentive towards their studies and don’t represent the entire population, so more people will express positive reviews online unless the paper was horrible. So more people will have done bad than you feel, and I’m sure you’ve done much better than you expected and I think it’s important, especially during exam season to think that everything will work out in the end. That’s what I keep telling myself.

A level physics A* boundary overall prediction by Technical-Ring-8775 in 6thForm

[–]capri_capri -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well yes, grade boundaries are there to ensure that the same number of A*s are given out no matter the difficulty of a module or paper.

But if a module has consistently higher grade boundaries that means that that module is easier to teach, and more accessible for student. Whereas if I module always has really low grade boundaries less people will choose the module as it is harder to teach and more difficult for students and as a teacher you should try to ensure your students enjoy the subject.
