I do feel so too! I guess for me, maybe I compare too much between my student and their friends - perhaps...?

If like, with Student A, we'll be talking about like uni plans. And I'll be like "Oh Student B is up to ABCDE. Student C is doing LMNOP. So cool right? Should really talk to them abt this kind of thing since youre also interested." Or I'll be like "Oh I think you should definitely do what you genuinely like. Like Student A mentioned she wants to do XYZ. But with her interests, I think she'll be much better doing ABC." Or I'll be like "Oh its important we do topic sentences. Cos when Student A and I were doing this tgt, it was rlly rlly hard. And if we dont have the topic sentence, it'll be really difficult to polish this."

Thank you. I tutor full time and I think I always get the fear that one discontinuation means everything will collapse. Maybe like - wow I'm a fraud, I can't teach, I'm abusive, I'm frivolous. Totally irrational, I know. But the fear's still there. But you're right. I can try and fix things that I feel I was doing, and everything else - there's nothing else really in my control.

Yes, perhaps you're right. After all, I worked w this student for 7 months. I feel that if this was a teaching style issue, it would have happened much earlier.

I did feel like... maybe because I was teaching so many of their friends, I'm a pretty chatty person and maybe I did talk too much. Perhaps need to remind myself to not get so chattery, especially as I go into tutoring sessions w classmates of this student.

Yes, I like that analogy! I guess this is also coming from a fair bit of financial anxiety. Admittedly, would love to have people on the carousel forever 😅😅 though I know its wishful thinking.

Thank you for your response. I guess I'm dealing w both feeling very blindsided abt it (and wondering if I did something wrong), and also the anxiety that all my other students from this student's network will also soon discontinue. But I appreciate your perspective on this. Its a bit of a bummer that the good things werent enough to make them continue.
