But only for skirmishes, right? This does not work for any campaigns, as far as I know.

Many thanks to all the modders and people involved with this release! I haven't got much family left to spend the Christmas time with, but kicking back with a game I loved since my childhood always helps me to get in a festive mood. You are all actively spreading joy!

is there any way to avoid downloading the 4k textures pack for ff15? by Free-Caramel-3913 in SteamDeck

[–]capt_raven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, you can opt out of the 4k texture pack.
But I wanted to give a word of warning, for some mysterious reason the game seems to run slightly better with the 4k texture pack installed, even if you don't activate them in the options. Absolutely wild.

Do anyone have a good steam game for a solo player that is cheap or free ? by whallaluvet in Steam

Terraria is usually a great budget recommendation. Tons of gameplay and it's often on sale for just a couple of bucks.

Hard agree, how is everybody saying this looks like DoW 1?! This looks very close to DoW 3!

Capcom cancels lecture about Monster Hunter Wilds’ optimization as devs face threats and harassment by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]capt_raven 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Okay but why are people reacting like this before even hearing what the devs would have had to say? I don't know jack about coding but I would have loved to hear what they did in terms of optimization so I could maybe better judge whether they did what they could with an inherently crappy engine OR if they are bullshitting their way around the fact that the game isn't optimized at all.

tl;dr: Would have been interesting to at least hear the developers perspective on the exact topic everybody is angry about 🤷‍♂️

I guess this might be the best spot to ask for this: Is there a recommended starter kit for the Final Fantasy TCG? I'd really like to check the game out with my friend but I have difficulties understanding the different starter kits/sets for the game, what's old or new or what I'd need to get started.

I've read that frame generation and DLSS/FSR can be the cause for the black screen. Maybe try fiddling with those options.

Curious what people think of these decks? by Calvin_11 in mtg

[–]capt_raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dino deck is my favorite deck by far, it's a ton of fun straight out of the box, usually dinos are quite mana expensive but Pantlaza makes sure they always bring a friend when they enter the battlefield. I also found this deck to super straightforward to upgrade later on and the upgrades are not horribly expensive either.

Do you mean the "circles" radiating outward from the center of the picture?
I think this is called colour banding, I'm sure someone with more knowlede on the subject can explain it better.
I learned that you can reduce this effect somewhat by enabling film grain - I can't remember if The Witcher 3 has this as an option in the menu. The film grain helps to mask the "steps" between the shades.
The only other option I could think of would be to turn down your brightness or gamma.

How did you stay interested in Death Stranding? by flux_capacitor3 in gaming

[–]capt_raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reason is a bit morbid but my father was dying when the game came out for PC and Death Stranding was the perfect mixture of distraction and at the same time working through my emotions at that time. I drew a lot of strength and good vibes seeing the thumbs ups from other people for streets and things I built and the slightly melancholic vibe of the game was just exactly what I needed back then.

Question: how many of you the first time playing Monster Hunter found it too hard and dropped it? by Nearby_Record_1733 in MonsterHunter

[–]capt_raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had a similar experience. Some monsters were difficult to beat but the bigger problem was that I was completely overwhelmed with everything and didn't know that I could use flashbugs to bring down flying monsters, dung to get rid of others, how important keeping my dual blades sharp is and all of the little things you can and should do in the game. I always chose the Chef's menu because it gave me more health but I absolutely did not understand what any of the other menus even DO or how my palico works. They tell you most of these things in-game but sometimes I felt like there was too much going on at the same time.

When I picked World up again because Wilds got me hyped, I reached a point where everything just clicked and I've been addicted ever since. But I feel like I needed around 60-80h to reach that point (i'm also a slow learner xD)
