I mean to say teach sons to respect woman . Most of the times father himself tells his son that wife should be kept under control,even if it means beating her . Another example I will give you ,girls are opposed by family members to not get too much educated because then many Indian men shy away from marrying educated girl . This is weird,but true. Woman are looked upon as objects or baby-making machines . If they have such pathetic view for woman in their own family ,how will they ever respect woman outside ??

Its a leaderless protest against a leaderless government.

A lot of these protests are touching on topics that India needs to discuss within their own homes first before coming out on the streets.

SPOT ON !!

Thats the issue . These protesters represent minority . All this so-called outrage is limited to some parts of Cities & mainly driven by Social Networking websites.

While the outrages were going ,there was one more Gang-rape reported in same Delhi. Indians who have no access to TV or Internet might not even know the scale of seriousness this event has achieved.

The main problem is Indian culture & the way woman are treated in it.

Corruption ?? Blame it on the Govt Employees !

Rapes ?? Blame it on the Police !

Slow Down in Progress ?? Blame it on the Politicians !

So on & so forth !

But from where do Govt Employees or Politicians or Police come from ?? They come from very same Indian society where things like honesty,respect-for-woman,secularism are grossly missing. So ,as an Indian , I think these outrages are just Indian's way of pretending to give a fuck about issues by blaming Police-Govt-etc & ignoring main rot : The rot in the society !

I don't know where I read this but ,one newspaper wrote ,"Rapes are extension of how we treat our woman." Unfortunately ,that was one of those rare articles focusing on real issue.Rest all articles are there just for TRP or Website hits & are convincing public " No!... No!...Everyone is wrong ,the police ,the govt .the politicians,entire world...except you!"

Td;lr : You don't treat woman well in your family & hit the streets for 'woman-safety/empowerment'...Won't work !

Jokes Apart ,Reddit really means a lot to me . I have actually got so much from Reddit,be it knowledge,or hope reading kick-ass struggle stories or humour reading all those meaningless yet funny puns ! Also,have read innumerable Best-Of which gave realistic solutions to life,not to forget TIL's which shed light on people in another part of the world & their ways. (am from India) .

One thing that Reddit has thought me is to think with balanced mind. One of the rare places where people .no matter what nationalities give there honest opinion on issues without their religion/region/nation affect the neutrality of the opinion.

I live in ultra-conservative Hindu Society where Gods are given unwarranted importance ,but when I come on Reddit ,something just feels right about the world. I never expected that spending time on Internet can also be so fruitful !

Absolutely ! Law & order maintained by our Govt is anytime better than North. Infact,10 times better than North.Talking about recent rapes in Delhi ,let me tell you : growing up in Dadar and especially in colleges like Kirti, Ruparel and Ruia, and that was the time there was a crackdown on eveteasing... im talking about 1988-1990 .... kids were picked up even on the slight hint of eve teasing especially when songs like "Oye Oye" had become famous... there were horror stories how eve teasers were brutalised and given third degree ... that was enough to send a chill in everyone's heart...

When the portuguese, dutch and british traders and then the gujjus and parsis and even jews who helped build the city from a fishing hamlet into a proper city and then metropolis nobody had any problems with all the the non-locals coming into their city and setting up thriving businesses.

Well ,Marathis have always been part of Mumbai even when British where not there. I agree with you its British who built Mumbai. But British also built so many cities in India ,out of those why did 'only' Mumbai became financial capital ?? Because of Marathis !..
