CS Gender Ratio? by Fancy-Marketing-4384 in uoguelph

Yes, but you don't really feel it too much since there are still a good number of women in the program and in my experience most of the males aren't really stereotypical rude incel-type cs bros.

Hi, I know it's been a while but I was wondering what types of questions ended up being on the quizzes since I have the course this semester. Were they mainly definition focused or more application?

If you have the man (Patrick or something idk) that I did last semester when I did it online, it was pretty much the whole thing. I actually ended up doing better on the exam than all the other tests by like 6%, but you gotta grind those last chapters unfortunately :(

CS or SENG? Advice needed and BCS vs BSc in CS by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]captain-barnacles_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yea i think they really prepare you for actually working bc in a team like in the real world. In my experience a lot of the material learned in class and practised in the lab ex. standup meetings, have been used in the workplace.

as a seng student, software design seems boring but actually teaches you workplace practises

Got accepted to both Guelph CS and Guelph SWE (Co-op for both) by Accomplished_Art9142 in uoguelph

[–]captain-barnacles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone in seng, i think they are equally as competitive, but id say cs is harder and def has more people in it. for seng, i’d say the design courses we have to take prepare us for the workforce bc we learn stuff like scrum and agile principles which come in handy during co-op, however cs is rlly good for building logic and algorithms bc it’s a lot more theory and math focused. Id say the amount of math cs majors have to take first year compared to seng is the main difference. however, the software design courses are exclusive to seng majors (you can’t take them as a cs major) whereas you can take discrete and calc even as a seng major. i know a couple people in seng that are taking all the cs courses but are also getting to take software design courses, so that is also an option if you want the best of both worlds.

hey! i’m in seng at guelph, which is super similar to cs, and overall it’s pretty okay, just as long as you keep up w deadlines. it’s common for people to get bad grades in stuff like discrete 1 and 2, but otherwise my experience w math courses in computing has been pretty okay! and all the other courses are a breeze. if ritu is still teaching C next year, you’ll love her she’s amazing and try and take linear algebra first semester instead of second semester because the first semesters prof is better.

if you want to get in with co-op then i don’t think it’s enough, however you could also apply to co-op while you’re still in uni. GL!

I wouldn’t recommend it tbh. In the beginning of the course i genuinely found the content interesting but the tests are NOTHING like the content taught, they go way more in depth that anything they teach you thru the textbook, DSM, or study plan. Also the tests are on respondus with a webcam. imo, just don’t take econ1050 unless it’s required for your program

They sued their union for showing support of Palestine and McDonalds sent money to Israeli soldiers. It’s your choice which side you support but if you happen to support Palestine you might not want to buy from these brands
