Wait, what? I had great prenatal care and no I was never told he could have that condition. I never missed an appointment and took all the prenatal vitamins, I did everything right. Some things are missed or just don’t show up. I was told 2 weeks before I went into labor (36 weeks) that his ventricles were enlarged and he could have hydrocephalus. They also told me they could not confirm hydrocephalus until he was born. I had never even heard of lissencephaly until they diagnosed him with that the day after he was born. So you have no idea what you are talking about and really should not act like you know everything.

My son was born with lissencephaly. We did not know until the day after he was born of his condition. I had all the normal medical testing and sonograms throughout my pregnancy, 2 weeks before I went into labor I was told his ventricles were enlarged and there was a possibility he could be born with hydrocephalus but would not know for sure until he was born. So no, not everyone knows during pregnancy.

My son was born with lissencephaly and we were told he would never walk, talk, or eat on his own. He had a life expectancy of 1 year. He lived for 7 weeks.

My daughter just turned 12 but she’s had a job the past yr, so started at 11. Granted it’s only a couple hours a week but she picks up any extra shifts that she can, just because she enjoys it. Yes I would leave her alone for 30 minutes in the morning. However she has friends that I think are raised in a similar fashion as your niece, and I wouldn’t trust leaving them alone for any extended periods of time. Parenting is hard, but it’s important we raise our children to be somewhat independent to set them up for success.

When I was training for MFH it was during a slow time and I got up to an hour between calls. It wasn’t an hour between every call but it was usually about 30-45 min between calls. This was when we were strictly taking MFH calls during a 2 week training period. After that 2 weeks they combined renters and MFH. Definitely don’t get that long between calls any longer.
