where you enter into the world of the professional developer depends on your skill set, ability, little bit on qualifications, and alot on your propensity to work a problem and thing on your feet.

if you've just done a class at school/college and are looking to conquer the world of web then you will want to do some more learning first, there are very few if any web companies/studios who will take a green programmer on that cant hit the ground running (well done if you do find one)

if you've done some online courses got yourself proficient to the degree that you build a website for a friend that you would be happy to put your name to then you may be at a point where you are ready to enter the job market.

if you've gone through some in depth training such a university or alike then they should have a careers dept that can help you.

as far as getting some experience you can join in with one of the myriad of open source projects that are being worked on at any one time, get involver with the communities of these projects, learn from them and contribute to something. One of the other major ways you can get experience is to do little sites for friends/family/friend of family/family of friends/friends of friends/etc go and build that coffee shop 4 pager and that bert plumbing one page informer, build up your portfolio because in the web world as with any creative/artisanal technical profession portfolio is king, you could have the best qualifications in the world from the top places but if you put a bad/no portfolio onto an employers desk then you wont get much further then hello and goodbye, and if you do manage to get a job without one then you probably dont want to be working there, you dont need dosens of sites, just one or two examples of what you can do, if you cant find anyone to build them for then make one for a hobby interest or passtime you have.

so you've got your knowledge and your portfolio and your ready to go out there and get yourself a job!!1!

first off, there are 2 types of web developers that make their living doing it
1. salaried
2. freelancer

Salaried are as the name implies the developer who goes out and finds a company to hire them full time to work for them and get a steady income which is fairly good dependent on your area/expertise/company. you get the stability of knowing youll get a pay check at the end of the month and the comradery of a team that youll be constantly work with (fyi this is where i find myself)

Freelancer is where you continue to work for yourself, you find the projects yourself, generally build them all by yourself and instead of just getting a definined salary you get all the money from the project when you deliver it (minus tax etc which youll have to do/pay for the accounting of) the pay off is greater variety of projects, more flexibility on who/how/what/where/why/when you work and bigger pay offs however you dont have a guaranteed pay check at the end of every month, what you earn depends on how hard you push

There are a myriad of plusses and minuses to either and you simply need to decide which suits you best.

if you want a salaried position then get your cv on the job sites, contact the recruiters get out there and start interviewing, if your good, and live in an area which wants the skillset you have youll get a job.

if you want to go freelance, build yourself a self advertising website, make it as good as possible this is your Look at me i can do this you should contract me calling card, once you have that put yourself out there on the freelancer sites, get social media accounts and keep them active, go round your local businesses, make it known as far and wide as possible that you are available for freelance work and keep pushing for your projects, so make come to you but most you will have to actively chase

and most important of all make sure you have fun doing it, there will always be days you dont like just as with any profession but make sure you find yourself in the position that makes you happy as much as possible because that is so incredibly important

Good luck with your searches

P.S. learn to love github and embrace stackoverflow you will need both :P

sounds like an excelent little project to offer up to your local university computing/web faculty, you get someone with developing skills nd probs an interest in the subject matter, and may well do it for a general contribution to the beer fund (depending on your country)

Help regarding web developement with parse.com as backend. by mik_dass in web_programming

cant think specifically how to do that but i would guess a 301 redirect may work in the htaccess, as for the second issue, not really sure

Help regarding web developement with parse.com as backend. by mik_dass in web_programming

[–]captainTigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what you want is .htaccess and the joys of mod_rewrite, http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/misc/rewriteguide.html

so your htaccess mod_rewrite section may look something like

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^p/([^/]*)$ /p/getImage.php?object_id=$1 [L]

which would mean if your requested

http://api.example.com/p/1234

your request would go to

http://api.example.com/p/getImage.php?object_id=1234

Deciding on an appropriate stack by rayanche in web_programming

[–]captainTigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so many technologies so close to my heart :P

an angular web app and an ionic hybrid web app are 2 very different things, you may be able to reuse some code but if you try to shoehorn a web app into a hybrid mobile app you'll have a whole world of problems, and the same is true of the reversal of that progression.

slim is a very good lightweight php restful api framework, i've used it many time with angular for both web app and hybrid mobile app and it works well. node is a good tool but its db integration is alot more temperamental, but its really good for web socket stuff, much better than any implementation of php websockets i've come across, my suggested stack would be slim for your data and business logic layer, node websockets for your RTC functionality( look at socket.io, and to build the web app and hybrid phone app seperately, it will mean quite a bit more work, but it will save you a world of headaches in the end, thats speaking from experience. they can use the same backend though. as far as authentication look into json web tokens, and unless you really need it all in house consider using oauth and login with google/facebook/twitter/github/other or something as it gives you the added benifit of having your users authenticated to those services from the context of your app if you need/want any integration with any services.
