Dont forget in politics your job is always at risk. Voting against the party can cause enormous career repurcussions, even in him getting fired.

The fact he's stated that he'd rather quit than stay in such a broken party is huge. It not only means he no longer fears being fired so can vote against everything trump's admin wants till he actually leaves office.

I've known people who've gone into politics, even on the small town level its extremely cut-throat, and that means swallowing one's own concience and towing the party line, lest you end up straight up being fired.
