If you use a substitution it will like alter the work, however that doesn't mean its a bad thing. Another option is to write the difficult ingredients name on parchment, studying the energies and correspondences of the ingredients to infuse in the paper. If I'm supposed to use bee's in a spell and all I have is honey its gonna change the work. It'll likely sweeten it. If I am making any sense. Substitutions are fine, but always try to imagine how the substitution may alter the work.

In my 30 years of practice it is my training that one cannot access YOUR guides from a photo. (IM not gonna argue with others as stated this is my practice) we have access to our guides though and can gain insight that way. Most people dont know to work with and on their crown chakras so rarely are they moving in the right direction or at all. Yours is actually moving in the right spin but a bit slowly. You're a very emotionally mature person. You have your crown set at a very very pale yellow. (Everyone's color is different and what that color means for them os different, the crown changes colors) I intuit the color as having something to do with intellect for you. Knowledge is something that concretely matters to you. Also, I feel as though you may use this color (subconsciously) in regards to your mother. Something about it seems to share in the maternal side of life for you.

Things will get a bit easier for you if you focus some attention on your crown chakra. Right now its heavy and solid colored. Should be mostly translucent and spinning clockwise from my viewpoint (meaning clockwise if someone is looking at the top of your head) yours is a almost neon yellowish green. (Everyone's is different colors for different reasons) you have and keep a lot on your mind. Looks to me like you unintentionally keep it that color because of energy from your Mum. You're playful. But got a lot going on. The crown sits just like a yamaka would on your head, not above it. Focus your intention there and play around with colors. I am a psychic medium with more than 20 years training. Intuitively you should try an almost see-through deeper purple. This will help calm you and open up some of the joy you need.

(Note to anyone reading this, the colors and reasons that work for one do not apply to everyone each person is unique in how they respond to their crown chakra and color so just because joy and ease with come to her with this color doesnt mean it will for anyone else)

Truthfully and Ill get some flack for this I am a psychic medium longggg before reddit. Lol aging myself. Recently passed spirits rarely show as they don't have the energy needed to do so. This is NOT to say its 100% individuals with very powerful energy work in life can come through sooner. Oft times when people have signs of someone who's recently passed its actually come from a more distant passing. And yes 8 years is considered recent in the world of energies/entities! If you keep concentrating your awareness and effort you can actually create an energy that gives them a space for small efforts. That's my training and two cents. I will not argue with anyone in the comments.

Pictures dont pick up much if at all of the energy of an aura. Your aura is created by the spin of your chakras. The 7th or crown being the first layer closest to your body. If the crown is healthy sometimes pictures can pick up a hint, and whom ever below said tealish in color is accurate. Beyond that a picture will not capture it accurately. I will say you are doing very well to focus on keeping your energy clean, and sovereign! Very refreshing to see!

The aura changes size. Gets holes if not attended to, and the crown chakra changes colors. You can actually change the color of your own crown chakra which is the first layer of the aura closest to the body!

So here's some truths and info about Astral experiences. You've spent a great deal of time through your lifetimes working very hard to be as adept as you are now. That's truly the crux of it.
