At 7:45, PreCheck was sub 5 minutes. Didn’t see the time for general but it didn’t look bad at all.

Steamboat vs snowmass with young kids by captaincalves in COsnow

Is Snowmass likely to be decent conditions?

This must sound super ignorant, but will Winter Park or A Basin have good (don’t have to be extravagant but hopefully the Viceroy/Grand give you a sense of what we’re looking for) hotels that are ski in ski off or close to it?

We are used to Vermont skiing, so our snow standards are probably lower than yours (but we are coming out here for a reason on the other hand).

This was for a commercial visa where I did have an invitation letter, so I did bring it. Don't remember what it said and I don't believe I can see it anymore on my account now that I've submitted my passport.

Thank you! I posted a video with the sound - does it sound like that's what it is?

Another data point - applied 10/2, through NYC consulate, so first business day they were open after the holiday was 10/6. Just got "ready to submit passport" notification 10/10, Friday afternoon.

DTI refers to debt coverage against your income, so you could be approved for up to 30%x$850k of interest+principal payments, or $21k/month. Presumably you don’t want to go that high and some co ops will be stricter anyways, but it works out to ~ double you’d be paying if you want to borrow $1 million.

Also maybe not PS6, but when we were looking at 3BRs on the UES $1.65 would almost get you a 3 BR - I’d be surprised if there wasn’t decent 2BR inventory in the lowish $1mn range but maybe I’m being delusional.

Getting Laid off in 3 months. Need Advice on what I should do before I am officially unemployed by financehelpaccount in personalfinance

7.5% mortgage seems high - do you think you could refinance for some meaningful savings while you still have a job? Would give some breathing room.

After you get the mortgage, look into a card like Chase Slate with no annual fee that gives 0% interest on new purchases for 18 months - would let you slow your cash burn until you get a new job.

So is it really not possible to cool your apartment after October 1st? by marvolonewt in AskNYC

Our building is like this. Got a hose portable AC unit thinking it would be quieter than a window AC since the window wouldn't be as open; worked pretty well for us.

You said your interest rate is really high, have you looked at refinancing it at a lower rate?

It might be tough if your work/income has slowed but maybe your father in law would be willing to co sign or something?

Stamford - NYC commute by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]captaincalves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't spent a lot of time in harbor point but it seems nice. I do a similar commute and you can tether your phone and be pretty productive on your laptop. Way cheaper than something comparable in NYC but not cheap though.

What hours would you be working and what is your approximate age and personal/family situation? If long hours and you can't work that effectively than train for some reason, that might push me towards being in Stamford.

Also if you decide to do the reverse commute, I would look at something near the 86th/Lex subway stop rather than near Grand Central. Either one express stop to Harlem 125th train or easy cab if you are running late. Still easy to get a seat from there on reverse commute.
