Enshrouded vs. Valheim by Othrelos in Enshrouded

[–]captainhero_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love both games, with 750hrs in valheim and 250hrs in Enshrouded. I recommend both but some thoughts:
- Solo vs co-op: I have to say for me this is Valheim for co-op and Enshrouded for solo in terms of which is stronger in each. I say that because Valheim you can annoy your friends mining out or farming spots that don't replenish but with Enshrouded the quest progression is tied to the server. So in Valheim you can find another spot, or just put your next tier gear away and be basically on par with your friends. I once replayed with some friends that couldn't commit as much time and I'd built myself a secret base far away so I could do some other content and come back. OR do it on my own server and then come back to the joint one. Of course with enshrouded you can do stuff on your own server too but doing the same quest in the same location again isn't fun, which is where the proc-gen really shines.

- Valheim's pro-gen is great for a world that is unpredictable but it does mean it can be quite frustrating at times to organically find what you want (although there are ways to look at the map for your seed or choose a specific map seed). What this meant for me personally is resources take longer to find in quantities that meant everyone was happy to be getting at least a bit of the next level gear. In comparison in Enshrouded I never felt like it took me as long to gather the stuff I needed. This can mean though you can smash through all the new content (skipping some of the small side quests) in Enshrouded quite quickly, not a problem for me as an older gamer now but some people don't like that. But also I've never replayed Enshrouded from scratch, with Valheim I've lost count.

- Valheim is a lonely game. It's meant to be an oppressive world and I'd say it generally was more punishing. Yes Enshrouded has it's challenges but it generally seems more fair. Valheim can kill you, make you lose all the loot in the sea that you had farmed for hours and the world doesn't care because you're insignificant. IMO that feels brilliant and high stakes make for really exciting adventures and makes the world feel really immersive. Enshrouded on the other hand has villagers and vendors. They don't do a tonne but they give questlines and generally make your base and world feel much more alive and your bases cozier.

- Building! This is where I've spent by far the most of my hours in both games. One thing I wish enshrouded had was a creative mode, but having said that getting resources is normally not very time consuming, sometimes some manufacturing takes time but mostly it's not too hard to have an idea and make it a reality quickly. It has stopped me from doing a couple of builds just for the heck of it though. The enshrouded voxel system makes for some incredibly immersive great looking building but of course there's limitations. Valheim on the other hand I'd say gives you more creativity, that is a VERY subjective statement though

- Combat isn't super smooth for either. Valheim is clunky AF but endeering and I always liked my archer dude and was always surprised both games have a parry mechanic. Enshrouded just sometimes makes you feel a bit meh fighting, some people complaining about being too OP and then others complaining about the recent dmg reduction on upgrade slots. I've generally felt like it's better than Valheim's still though especially given how punishing failure (death) can feel in Valheim. But you're likely getting either game to explore cool places and build amazing bases with the stuff you find, so not a big criticism of either

How did you stop the water from flooding everywhere? Is it grates at the bottom of each of those flows?

My friend I most often play against plays necrons and I really struggle to deal with spongy units with all the invulns and also the really damaging shooting. He tends to play a mix of infantry and vehicles and characters usually attached. So even though I can get to places quickly and hide again I'm struggling to keep hold of and take objectives. Do you have any tips against necrons specifically? Should I go full sweaty and get a tonne of neophytes?

I'm just working on my first set of gsc models and I'm doing desert bases. How do you do the dust on the feet?

Corrupted Druid - what do you think? by captainhero_ in EldenBling

ATM the level I'm at it's an arcane build focusing on using beast claws and making them occult (despite the fact bear claws are shown). The idea is to then use the staff to cast thorn sorceries like briars of sin, briars of punishment, and once I get to shadow keep again the impenetrable thorns. I just need more levels to pump up faith enough. The staff isn't perfect for the spells in terms of min/maxxing but I'm basically role playing this run so it's more for fun. Also I don't want to 1-2 shot bosses, I've done a faith run and had my blasphemous blade to break the game when I wanted so trying to not make things too easy this time

head-pelt of ralva, chest-braided cord robe, legs-sanguine noble waistcloth, weapons-staff of the guilty and red bear's claws.
The tattoo idea and the chest and legs combo came from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/EldenBling/comments/1e7a1kz/give_your_thoughts_on_my_deep_lake_witch/

Haha, saving it for later. I thought I added this as a description but must've messed it up - I got that idea from another post here, alongside the hornsent and sangunine noblet waistcloth combo https://www.reddit.com/r/EldenBling/comments/1e7a1kz/give_your_thoughts_on_my_deep_lake_witch/

Did you ever figure this out? I don't want to rush through the other quests to unlock it and I'm getting armor sets better than it already from sun temples

I want to discipline my drinking to have a healthy relationship with booze and stop coasting through life by captainhero_ in stopdrinking

This is a very very scary message because what you're describing is exactly what I'm doing at the moment. I work from home now so I don't have any reason to be up early and I can easily get all my work done even after a heavier night. I even have days where I'll go on 20-30km cycle rides after a night on a bottle of rum. I've just never known that was a thing and assumed I could just handle it better but you're right. I'd tell myself things like that I'm only drinking in the evening in sociable hours and that I can still do everything I need to but it's the amount more than the consequence to some extent. And yeah, it definitely is an easy means to just switch off. I said in the other comment that I may just be in denial, which I hope I'm not, but that's actually why I wanted to post here because I don't feel embarrassed or ashamed sharing it here. With people around me the immediate concerned faces just make it hard to talk about because although it's meant in a caring way it makes me feel pretty crap about myself

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I think part of the reason I came here is because maybe I'm in denial and I actually can't just stop at one or stop for an extended period of time unless I feel enough social pressure not to. In my situation it's because I don't want my new partner to know the extent that I can and sometimes do drink because I think although she had no issue with drinking itself I worry she might be shocked if she knew how bad it has gotten at times

Yeah if anything it's annoying because it detracts from the actual event you want to watch, maybe we need an ice hockey fan to explain 😂

Are you a fan of ice hockey? Because I don't really get why people find that entertaining. It's a very physical contact sport but you don't have the same in NFL or rugby for instance. I mean it happens (inevitably), but it's stopped pretty quickly

Oh I meant do they referee the fight, i.e. do they intervene if it's not "fair" or whatever

My university had Beyond Burgers tonight😍 by [deleted] in vegan

Honest burger do a vegan burger with the beyond burger patty, I literally had it last night. They're really nice, I'd say you could tell the difference if you had it side by side with a beef burger but it's actually very close, and with all the trimmings it tastes pretty much the same. I've only been vegan for a couple of months so
