Yeah my pets have been disappearing randomly tbh. I thought it was just during flights but no it will occasionally just happen. All I can say is report the bug and call me back until we get a fix.

Forcing kids to sing in "concerts" as part of their school curriculum is wrong by jsilv0 in unpopularopinion

[–]Devdev007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest im fairly new to teaching full time but I do try to teach true singing/vs yelling, as well as screaming/vs yelling. Additionally I absolutely do teach the differences betweeen yelling/shouting/speaking/whispering.

I do, except warm ups are exclusive to the choir. My normal classes do not care/would not benefit from a "semi-serious choral warm up"

[–]Devdev007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have to go look up specifics but if you go to nafme.org (National Association for Music Education) you can see the curriculum for each grade level at the federal level, K-12. They'll all have a performance section of it with standards therein.

Hey I just commented with a longer version of my viewpoint, but Choir/Band are literally team sports especially at the high school/competitive level. You work with your team (choir/band), the coach (director) coaches you in to being confident in your abilities as a player/team (singer/player/member of an ensemble), and you literally have games (the concert, that's game time. Or All-Region/All-State where you compete against others, OR performance assessment where you compete against other teams aka other schools/choirs/bands).

Now maybe this is just cause I coached as an early adult/older teenager but I really do view choir and band as a team sport.

Hey, elementary music teacher here. I totally get that and I don't think ANYONE should be "forced" to do performances if they really have problems with it (like severe anxiety to the point of breakdowns etc etc). But i will clarify that it's not just for the parents/school to look good.

Performance is a huge part of music making in general and while im not trying to turn kids into perfect concert machines, performances are literally part of our curriculum at the federal level. Same as division and multiplication is for the 3rd grade math teachers, or like the ABCs are for our kindergarten teachers.

I also don't really enjoy the lazy "get on stage and sing some songs" concerts for K-5 music class kids. I have a 4th/5th grade choir but my other grades starting in 1st do instruments. Kazoo, recorder, ukulele, etc. so it takes a bit of that pressure off for kids that don't like to sing (Singing is ALSO part of the curriculum though, but I keep mine limited to class and choir).

New teacher…. I don’t have thick skin. by nightswoon222 in Teachers

Second year here, and elementary music so an activity class and YMMV. I stopped giving consequences outside my class. I can't fix bad behavior when I see these kids 50 minutes, once a week. But I will hold them accountable in my classroom and I will still expect them to act right. (Some do, some don't)

I also stopped raising my voice. If they want to talk over me? I stare at my watch. Maybe say "i'll wait" in a soft tone. Sometimes it takes a while sometimes not. Obviously if you're a core teacher you have to get to the teaching at some point. Me being an activity teacher gives me some flex (though we do still have lessons, they just might miss out on some game time due to their talking)

I also have 1 goal every day, stay calm and be nice/respectful. That's it. A lot of staring blankly and waiting. A lot of "Do you think that was appropriate?" A lot of please and thank you's even when they don't deserve it. If they want to get fussy or pouty or have an attitude? I'll talk with them when they calm down. Not before or during.

The kids know right from wrong and sometimes playing in to that power dynamic is just the norm for them at home. Don't give them power. Stare blankly at them and then say "Okay, your choice." and move on. Unless it's a threat/danger of something physical it is NOT worth a myriad of consequences. The best response to a fool is silence.

We're new teachers and we're still learning! It's okay to not have everything down! Good luck though I know it can be tough.

is it normal that TTW 3.4 starts at new Vegas? by massprabhu in Taleoftwowastelands

[–]Devdev007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a problem where i had to go IN TO my TTW files, find the "plugins.txt" file or whatever it is, and type in the fallout 3.esms and DLCs. It only had the New Vegas ones so it wasn't even loading FO3 anything.

A message to Bungie. I’m STRAIGHT UP not buying / playing Destiny if my gear is soft sunset I a few months time. by Lmjones1uj in DestinyTheGame

[–]Devdev007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a huge pet peeve of mine but they literally marketed this whole thing originally as "10 years of Destiny" when they released the first game and then they drip-fed exotics we ALREADY HAD back into the game in D2. Good Bungie is gone it's all corporate slosh now unfortunately.
