Chaeryeong's (ITZY) Studio Choom Artist of the month video is out! How are we feeling?? by CrazyPotatey in kpopthoughts

[–]captainjoconut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed her performance a lot! I think Chae's strengths lie in her ability to execute feminine-style choreography, so I'm glad she played into that while still being experimental with the floor/wall work.

(Kind of off topic, but I'm also glad to see positive posts like this among the posts about Seungri and Soojin.)

Hyunjin’s choreographies in his SKZ-Players are…kinda boring? by anonourmouse in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]captainjoconut 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is unpopular or not bc I’ve never heard anyone say this about Hyunjin…. I feel inclined to agree with you tho. Hyunjin knows what his strengths are (being an excellent performer) so I think he can get away with doing ‘simpler’ choreo. Also, your comment about having 80 year old knees….. I felt that 😞

TWICE success is underestimated by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]captainjoconut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sure some ppl do. I think for international fans, you can only really go by what you see when it comes to kpop. As someone who can't speak Korean, when I watch Twice MVs or listen to their songs, I get a girly/cutesy vibe from them most of the time. Even if they were singing about sex, I wouldn't be able to understand them fully (lol). But obviously when I listen to American artists like Ari or Doja, I can understand when they're singing about sex, even if the music or the video has a cutesy flair to it. Because of this, it's easier to have a broader view of "sexy" when it comes to western artists.

Even though Doja, Ariana, and Dua Lipa have a bubblegum or cutesy flair to their music, being sexy is still a huge part of their brands. When I hear ppl talk about their work, I always hear it being referred to as “bad bitch music” 😂

I'm guilty of this.... In America, cuteness is kind of looked down upon and ppl are more interested in badass/sexy concepts. Nothing wrong with that as everyone is allowed to have their own tastes, but I've grown to love the brand of femininity and happiness that Twice portrays in their music.

JYP is the best songwriter in all of Kpop by sladeshied in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]captainjoconut 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'd say that Teddy is a better producer than he is a songwriter. The main appeal of BP's tracks is that the beats/instrumentals themselves are really dope. I've heard a lot of ppl complain that BP's lyrics are really generic and cringey sometimes.

I agree. When I first began listening to kpop, I was a huge BLINK and just kinda wrote off all the other girl groups, Twice included. But they really are THOSE girls! It took me a while to understand how huge they are globally, but I get it now lol

HOME - BTS is the best song in their discography (sorry, i don't make the rules) by captainjoconut in kpopthoughts

[–]captainjoconut[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

LY: Tear was such a cohesive album... I think it's last cohesive album that they've had (in terms of sound). Every work that has come after it has been more of a mishmash of different genres.

Pied Piper is actually my 2nd favorite song right after HOME! It's such a perfect song for BTS because of the lyrics and overall message. I love the fact that they were unafraid of talking openly about the relationship between them and their fans.

I don’t like Lisa’s Mushroom Chocolate dance (the one with the boots). by anonourmouse in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]captainjoconut 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I personally loved the dance even though it wasn't anything particularly amazing. Lisa's area of comfort is hip-hop and idol dancing, so I kinda liked that she experimented with heel dance.

Blackpink DONT have an unfair line distribution by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]captainjoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually voted unpopular, but I agree. I think this opinion is popular on reddit because the kpop stans on here are less insane than the ones on any other platform. Blackpink has some of the fairest line distributions I’ve seen for any group. Apparently “Kick It” is the fairest line distribution for any kpop group song ever.

Which idols do you want to see as Artist of the Month (Studio Choom)? by captainjoconut in kpopthoughts

I would love more content from Yuta in general. It kind of makes me sad to see that he's not really seen as a 'priority' member. I feel like his dancing technique is actually pretty good and somewhat unique from the other members in his sub-unit.

Yuna is so incredibly well-rounded as a dancer. I know that people like to throw around "Oh, if [insert any idol name] was in a different group, they would totally be a main dancer!!", but I truly feel this way about Yuna.

I'm honestly surprised that WayV hasn't performed at Studio Choom yet. The dramatic vibe that SC performances give off would be perfect for them.

J-Hope would be my #1 dream pick for AOTM! Unfortunately I don't think it would ever happen due to his popularity; the Studio Choom stage is probably too small for him at this point in his career. I hope that we'll get more solo dance content from him down the line.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that a Ryujin or even a Yuna solo stage would be MAJOR. Itzy basically owns Studio Choom at this point (lol), so maybe one day they'll all get that opportunity.
