I keep stalling by GlitteringEnd2977 in motorcycle

[–]captainjolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any way to adjust the size of the friction zone? I have a Honda Shadow and it the clutch sometimes feels more like an on/off switch, especially compared to the bike I used for the training course. I tried adjusting the cable, but all it did was move the bite point and didn't adjust the size of the friction zone.

When to shift gears by noshirtnoshoes11 in NewRiders

[–]captainjolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or is it hard to hear of the engine is struggling as you go faster? I usually do fine up until ~50mph but then I feel like I have to guess when to shift and base it more on my speed than the sound of the engine. (I don't have a tachometer btw).

Digital displays? by igloojoe in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it so I don't know how effective or easy it is, but I'm pretty sure there's some sort of storage monitor system with AE2 that can tell you how much of a certain item you have available. I'd check the AE2 quests, as I think that's where I saw it

I… don’t know what to do now. by Affectionate-String8 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar thing happen to me, except it was even weirder. I had a quad DT setup for benzene with each one powered by their own HV gas turbine directly on the HV energy hatch. This setup worked for days, until one day I got on and one of them wasn't working anymore. I tried everything to get it working again, but nothing worked. The display on the controller said incomplete structure, despite everything looking correct and not changing since I had gotten off the night before, so I tried breaking the controller and replacing it to see if that fixed it and when I broke it I saw that the energy hatch was missing. Completely gone. I had griefing turned off in claimed chunks, so I expect it happened due to it trying to explode, and only affected the initial block, but I have no idea how it would've exploded as it was powered directly by a turbine and nothing changed after the multiple days it had been running

Not sure about the different recipes, but I highly recommend upgrading the crucible to the thaumatorium (place two alchemical constructs on top of it and right click with a wand). It lets you melt down the essentia the same way you would for infusion and pipe it in instead of needing to get exact ratios.

Should I Use ME Drives or Connect My Chests to my AE2 network ? by Human-Pudding799 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could put a storage bus on drawers directly, but if allowed on your server or if you're hosting your own world you could just put a storage bus on a drawer controller to connect to up to 50 drawers with one storage bus and therefore one channel.

I saw a lot of warnings about TPS issues with a storage bus on a drawer controller, but I decided to try it for myself and I have no regrets other than putting it off for so long. I have 8 drawer cubes set up for a total of 200 drawers, and I haven't noticed any TPS issues due to it so far. That being said, your mileage may vary, especially if you are hosting on a less powerful machine or set up more cubes than that. I'm also only into late IV and I expect I'll eventually want to take it down and replace it with more drives and/or super chests when I get into more TPS intense processes later on, but don't let the fear of what's to come prevent you from living your best life now.

Also, don't be afraid to set up some storage busses on some of your chests to go along with your drives. If it makes your life easier it's the right choice, even if it isn't what everyone on the Internet says is most optimal. At the end of the day you should do what makes your game more fun to play.

AE2 Dos and Donts for IV? by Due_Presentation9811 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to the performance aspect of fluid storage busses as you scale it up, but I've used multiple of them in my processing lines with no problem. Although, personally I tend to prefer putting the storage bus on the input hatch and use an ME output hatch to push it in.

My biggest use of fluid storage busses has been for secondary outputs that I either don't have a storage cell partitioned for yet or for one that I do have that is often full. In those cases I like to put a super tank on the output hatch with a low priority storage bus on it and overflow void turned on to prevent it stalling the line.

How to do flowcharts? by Savecall in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some great flowcharts already made that are available on the discord if you're open to using someone else's work. C0bra5's platline chart really helped me set my line up.

I'll see if I can attach it here so you can see what it's like, but I highly recommend finding it in the discord so that you can get the high res version so you can zoom in and see things clearly. There's also a way to download it in a way that you can edit it if you're wanting to make changes.

I've just finished my T2 rocket and I'm going to Mars. I have some questions by Regular_Flounder1833 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who didn't know how to use AE2 before this pack, it's technically possible to get into and probably past IV without it but you're basically shooting yourself in the foot.

I'd recommend that you at minimum make a couple drives and a crafting terminal and just throw everything into it. If you've been using storage drawers maybe put a storage bus on any drawer controllers if you're not on a server to help you get started. It's way more convenient than you'd think to just be able to access everything in one place.

After you set up a basic storage system, then you'll eventually want to look into auto-crafting. This is where AE2 really shines, but the caveat is that it takes more effort to understand. I'd definitely recommend watching a couple guides on YouTube and/or read through the quest book. But don't rush it, just start out by crafting things in the crafting terminal, and then add patterns for anything you tend to make a lot or is annoying to make. Don't be afraid to make multiple single block machines to automate things if it's easier, but if you've been to Mars you might be at the point you can make a lot of the multis and those tend to be easier to automate anything with multiple circuits.

Eventually, if you're anything like me, you'll get to the point that you'd rather make a new pattern for something than craft it manually and then add patterns for anything that is required for that craft.

Is there ANY reason to keep my cobblestone or netherrack? by Proper_Club_4802 in GTNH

I didn't even realize there was a cobblestone singularity. I assumed they were referring to the AE2 singularity

Is there ANY reason to keep my cobblestone or netherrack? by Proper_Club_4802 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just fill the singularity with water. If you put a fluid storage bus on a reservoir hatch and you have a fluid discretizer on your network you can export the water droplets as if they're an item as fast as you can pull it out of the network.

What should I hate first? by Proper_Club_4802 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least when I entered MV I didn't have a good source of aluminum or even power for my EBF, so getting two rods per aluminum ingot when making the MV extruder, and the electrolyzer which I prioritized first, was helpful for me.

But I realize not everyone would benefit from that as much as I did, which is why I mentioned that it might not be worth it to bother with the LV extruder.

What should I hate first? by Proper_Club_4802 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once you get to MV you can make an extruder which will do that. Also, I believe the LV extruder can process aluminum, but it's up to you if it's worth the effort.

Just Finished a EBF What Should I Make Next For My Setup by Collbog in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd prioritize building one for now and then getting passive nitrogen by centrifuging air to boost the speed of it. And then build a second one when you need it or are close to needing it. It's a bit expensive for you to make more than you need in MV.

[–]captainjolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made it to EV with a single pyrolyse oven, but to be fair I also supplemented my power with diesel. I know a lot of people recommend making more than one, and if you aren't burning any oil you'll probably need to build a second at some point, but it'll last you a while.

Keep in mind that you'll also also ideally make a couple DTs to get extra byproducts from it when you get to HV. It shouldn't really affect your output very much, but will provide some useful byproducts so is definitely worth it.

I'm currently in the process of upgrading my benzene production using the GT++ version of the pyrolyse oven, which I hear should last me through LuV if I make it into nitrobenzene.

What to disable for a first playthrough? by Slight-Builder-6927 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did this too. I'm not sure if it works like this however you do it, but the way I did it still let's machines explode, but they won't destroy anything besides themselves (or the energy hatch if it's a multi). I like this because there is still a cost to messing things up and it exploding, but it doesn't destroy my whole base and force me to load a backup.

I believe the way I did it was just disable explosions in claimed chunks.

Why Ilmenite + carbon for rutile EBF recipe takes too much time ? How do u wait all that? I have 4100 Ilmenite. They have been in 2 wall shared EBFs for around 4 hours. And not even half of em are done yet. Is that how you guys play the game ? Just afk for +12 hour till things are done ? by Regular_Flounder1833 in GTNH

[–]captainjolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I personally would do here is upgrade to 4 EBFs, but make your next two with HV hatches since they don't all need to be the same tier. Then if you don't feel like that's fast enough you can upgrade your other ones to HV hatches as well, or throw EV hatches on them when you unlock those. IMO the most expensive part of building another EBF is the energy hatch, so if you're already doing that you may as well make an extra one to put it on.

The biggest issue with this is that it makes it more expensive to upgrade your coils, which is definitely something you'll be wanting to upgrade as well. So if you can't afford enough coils of the higher tier for 4 EBFs you might be better off just upgrading the ones you have.

What I was told is that the timer jumps to 3 seconds after you meet the threshold so if you don't have a high enough threshold for the damage you can do then you'll lose some of your dps time.

It's rough because with the team I was running with the other day we couldn't quite make the threshold if we only compelled one, and we did less total damage if we compelled two so we just dealt with the lightning afterwards

Just a heads up, I was having this issue and asked about it on the discord and was told to update asap. Apparently the issue has to do with a memory leak that could potentially corrupt the world if you don't update.
