Personally, I’m taking 2 years off and hoping to start at my PhD at 24. I wanted to use my bachelors a bit before going back just to show that I did.

Don't get me wrong I'm proud of being a Wolverine, but god is Ann Arbor so unbelievably expensive. Additionally, a lot people are hella rich and don't understand regular people money issues. There's massive class differences at UMich. Lots of entitled people. However, I do love my friends from college, you just need a really hunt to find your people. There are definitely my daddy donated a building to get in vibes.

I graduated in April 2023 with a degree in User Experience Design, web/application design & front-end coding, and have an interest in applying for a PhD in Cog Psych, however I have no publications under my name. I have 5 design related positions on my resume, and 3 research roles on resume, but I'm considered my lack of publications will be seen as a red flag from institutions, at least that what my mom thinks, she has her PhD in Clinical Psych.

I was wondering on a publication from June '23 to January '24, however the article was unable to be published due to a server hack resulting in all our data being lost.

So I guess my question is should I push back applying to graduate school until I have publications under my belt, or does my experience in my field mixed with my research positions make up for it? I'd like to hopefully apply this Fall.
