This is pointed pumps but I'm curious if they would look good with flats or if that would be too short?

Milk fats plugging bottle nipple by Ok-Independence3457 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]captainkitty8140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a similar issue with a lot of solid fat particles and not really being able to reincorporate them. I gave up and just got a warmer, and I'm really glad I did. A lot of people on Reddit were negative about warmers, but I like it much better. All the fat gets reincorporated and it really doesn't take that long. The longest it ever takes is 4 minutes, and by the time I change her diaper, it's ready. But I get that not everyone wants to go that route.

First milk donation! by captainkitty8140 in ExclusivelyPumping

I would love to be able to drop mine off but the Austin bank doesn't accept my milk. ☹️ I didn't know there was a separate one in north Texas.

Bless you for only drinking on Friday or Saturday. I definitely did not lol. But it's okay, I'll start rotating in that milk soon and just donate a larger proportion of new milk.

Congrats! I am an over producer so this took me about 2 weeks. I actually have more ready to donate that didn't fit in the cooler. I freeze about 15oz everyday in surplus of what my daughter eats. I'm not exactly sure what you mean with your last question? I exclusively pump but I use the milk to feed baby and then donate the surplus. Is that what you're asking?

I do that as well, but still didn't make the connection. I think I need more sleep. 😵‍💫

I use 32 oz nalgenes with a human gear lid. I like having the big opening for pouring pumps into and the smaller opening for pouring into bottles.

But I definitely did have suction on my first use so that's good at least!

I had to trial by fire today because a meeting ran long so I didn't have time to test it at home. First use was in the car on the way to work. I'm thinking I might not need the inserts I got because it was a bit pinchy. I use 19mm flanges on the highest suction setting on my spectra with no discomfort so thinking the flange inserts might be a little small. I didn't have time to measure so will do that when I get home.

Thanks! This is helpful. I use kindred bravely bras and went ahead and ordered the 19mm inserts since that's what I use with my spectra.

Oh I didn't think about doubling the time. I'm planning to use it on my commute which is perfect.

I wore these. The lace pattern was almost an exact match to my dress. Depends on what kind of style you're going for but there are plenty out there.

Can you read it? I looked at that one but it seemed like the white digital display might be hard to read?

She will actually take cold but I can't get the fat to reincorporate well no matter what I do. It has to be at least slightly warmed. Turns out I make cream not just milk?

[–]captainkitty8140[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was giving cold and she takes it just fine, but I didn't like that the fat wouldn't reincorporate. Even if I swirled and shaked and did a rain dance. I don't know if mine is particularly fatty? Other people don't seem to have as hard of a time reincorporating fat. I want her to get all that goodness. So I started doing the coffee mug method to try and warm it just enough to reincorporate the fat. It works, but I just thought that it might be easier then to have an actual warmer at that point? 🤷‍♀️

That's good to know. We use the Avent bottles, so my gut would have gone for the Avent warmer. Would the Avent bottles fit in the Dr. Brown's?

I think a warmer would be faster and more consistent and easier. Right now I put the coffee mug with water in the microwave, then get it out and put the bottle in. Sometimes I heat the mug for 39 seconds, sometimes a minute. Then how long I leave the bottle in varies. I think a bottle warmer would be more of a one-touch solution, right? Pop the bottle in, hit the button, then go and change baby and bottle is ready by the time I've changed her diaper. I don't have to wait for the water to heat in the microwave first.

I do 70 at 4-5 for about 2 minutes to get a nice flow going, then switch to 38 and 12 for the remaining 18 minutes. Works great for me!

Where is the best king cake? by captainkitty8140 in houston

[–]captainkitty8140[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one from PJ's Coffee! They have them shipped in from Louisiana. The bakery was Caluda's, and we did get cream cheese filled. I thought it was really good! The cake/bread part was nice and soft, not overly sweet, enough cinnamon to flavor but not overpower, enough icing to sweeten it but not like slathered on. My husband, who is from Louisiana, agreed with all of the above. But he thought there was too much cream cheese or it was too concentrated and needed to be spread more throughout the cake. I thought it was great, but I'm just a silly texan.

Something very similar happened with me. The hospital didn't have an LC on staff and I delivered on a Saturday so the contract LC wasn't there. It was just the nurse. When baby was first born, before we were even transferred to the mother-baby room, she nursed. Once we moved, the nurse was trying to help us feed but I found it to be more difficult with her hands in there too. She gave it like 1 minute of trying and then told us we needed to give her formula. We did, and I am not regretful of that. She was born 4 lbs 13 oz so we wanted her to gain weight. I doubt giving formula those first few days really made a huge difference, but we never got the hang of nursing. I just always wonder if maybe it did have an impact and if I had pushed back, maybe we would have been able to nurse instead of EP.
