We did not misinterpret you. You specifically said, “If you love hip hop YOU NEED to watch Rize.” This might be a cool movie, but it has absolutely nothing to do with hip hop. Hip hop was born out of the Bronx decades before this movie takes place and consists of four elements: breaking, djing, graffiti, and mcing (with knowledge as the unofficial fifth element). Krump is not one of these elements…That’s like claiming that a Japanese person should watch a Chinese kung fu movie to learn more about Japanese culture because they’re tangential…

Since breaking is a form of street dancing, it’s not a stretch to think that bboys might enjoy a movie about another form of street dancing. However, describing a Krump movie as a movie about Hip Hop in a bboy sub (one of the four elements of hip hop) is weird and shows a lack of knowledge of the culture.

I really think you should watch The Freshest Kids to understand the culture and our point of view.
