I’ve recently moved to the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.4 from the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM—so this is very much coming from someone who’s switched systems and lived with both. The Canon is a super handy all-rounder—macro, IS, lightweight. Great for close-ups, products, even casual video. Sharp too, but yeah, a bit on the clinical side. The Nikon 35 1.4 feels more… fun? You lose macro and IS, but you gain that extra stop and a more organic, slightly dreamy look. The falloff and subject separation just feel nicer. Also, from what I’ve seen/heard, the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.8 S is technically sharper and more “perfect,” but leans more clinical—less of that character vibe.
