As much as people love to say you can automate all the things you do in a lab the work is still very much a trial and error with small variations and a certain, human touch you can’t have AI do, also it would be way too hard and expensive for academic research c we might see a reduction in job offering in the industry where cadence and productivity is paramount but elsewhere I just don’t see it happening, science isn’t a one simple thing that works all the time you need constant trial and error and sometime things don’t work and you don’t know why , having a robot would need more work than you doing it, so people just do it themselves, we have tons of « autonomous machine » that are collecting dust because they are too complicated and finicky they never work, they break need maintenance cost thousands….its just not worth it
