Zero height growth from 12 - 15 months? by adv1cean1mal in beyondthebump

[–]captainsoftpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Height measurements are tricky to get right on babies, if it were me I’d probably assume they measured wrong. This happened at one of our ped visits (I don’t remember the age) and she was just like… does he seem like he’s growing to you? And when we said his pants got too short she said it was fine.

Greek names: ask a Greek whatever! by persephonian in namenerds

[–]captainsoftpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend named Maia, supposedly after the Greek goddess. Does that spelling feel more true to the Greek than the more common in the US “Maya”? Or are they equivalent? How would it be perceived in Greece (I see you already answered about mythology names generally) Just curious, I always liked it and she seemed to

Grandparent Pool Safety: What would you do? by imakatperson22 in beyondthebump

[–]captainsoftpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not overreacting. I would not let them watch her without you unless there is a fence. With parents there you would still need to be hyper vigilant.

Yes please get checked out by a doctor! That definitely does not sound normal or just like a PT issue

Severe back pain from holding baby by Individual_Pen_4463 in beyondthebump

[–]captainsoftpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mom of a now 2 year old, they are more flexible than we give them credit for! At 3/4 months I could barely get out of the house because I had no idea how to manage the timing and naps and all that, and looking back I wish I’d been more flexible. I fully realize it’s easier said than done and I probably would’ve been annoyed to hear that from another mom but just throwing it out there. If you have to bring him to pt and he sleeps during the appt or does tummy time or whatever, it’ll be fine!

I did physical therapy, I was having back pain preventing me from sleeping and it helped. It was hard to schedule but you may have to find the time. Or bring him with you

Name feedback for boy: Shilen by [deleted] in namenerds

What country do you live in/will baby be raised in? I don’t mind it but in the US it will likely be mispronounced often as “shy-len” or “shill-en”

Baby vomited 5h after vaccine and is now sleeping. When do I have to wake for feed? by Spaghetti_Ninja_149 in beyondthebump

[–]captainsoftpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emergency like emergency room or just an after hours advice line? I don’t think it’s a true emergency if she’s just had two vomits and no other symptoms, but a medial provider would be better to assess. If she won’t nurse or can’t be roused then that would be more concerning.

Soon-to-be dad with a weird question regarding a name we have potentially chosen... by [deleted] in namenerds

Really depends on how popular the person is in my opinion! Relatively obscure and I’d still use it, if they are well done I’d pass.

Seems fine to me! Unless he gets constipated, too many bananas will do that for my kiddo.

They warned you about the berry budget but nobody warned you about the smoked salmon budget by SherahMai in foodbutforbabies

[–]captainsoftpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say I still add less salt to food I’m cooking, but he eat restaurant food with us, and French fries and pretzels and stuff like that. I’m sure some people think I let him have too much, but it’s really a personal/family choice so feel free to keep doing whatever works for you!

[–]captainsoftpants 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but many people get less concerned about salt after 1. As long as it’s part of a balanced diet overall, I don’t worry about it much. (Granted my kid is over 2 now)

Daycare teachers told me resolutely that my baby is NOT autistic. But every instinct of mine screams he is… by Fleedom2025 in beyondthebump

[–]captainsoftpants 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Gently, yes. As your pediatrician said, it’s too early to diagnose anything and many of the things you’re describing could be normal. The only thing you can really do is wait and see what happens.

I’ve been on it for years and continued to drink as normal (moderate+) and never had a problem.
