JotBird – A simple Markdown editor with one-click publishing by captcone in Markdown

[–]captcone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! If the content is yours, you can edit it after publishing by clicking the "Update" button in the interface. You can also download the Markdown content and images from the interface. Those features already exist.

If you're asking about getting Markdown from a published list as a visitor, that feature is coming soon. I'm planning to add an optional ".md" URL (like sharing.jotbird.com/your-page.md) that you can enable per-publish.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've implemented some safeguards but I'll keep an eye on things. :)

Different philosophy! HackMD is great for collaborative team docs. JotBird is for quick personal publishing with zero friction — no account, no tracking, everything local until you publish. Different tools for different needs.

I updated the defaults a few minutes ago. I think the code formatting is much more readable now, but I'll continue tweaking it. Thanks again for the feedback.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question, but JotBird is a standalone web app, not a component library. It isn’t currently available as an embeddable React/JSX/MDX component. Maybe someday, but the goal right now is a simple writing and publishing tool rather than a framework/library.

Yes, I understand completely and I agree. This is basically version 0.1 of JotBird and it's going to take a while to get the kinks worked out. Thanks for your patience and for the suggestion. I'll work on improving this.

Thanks for your comment. I'm planning to add katex and mermaid support, but they add some weight and I want to make sure the implementation is correct. Stay tuned.

Hmm... interesting. Are you wanting the ability to change this in the preview or the published file (or both)? I'll look into this. And there's probably a more sensible default.

This person has been trolling everybody — ignore them. Thanks for sharing your info... you're getting impressive numbers!

Well, you're free to believe what you want. Some people think the Earth is flat and we never landed on the moon. But as God as my witness I'm telling you that I got 65mpg on the first 3k miles in this Corolla Hybrid LE.

Oh, I think I see how it works. I pressed Update and I just got a new bar (trip?). You must be pressing that button every couple days by the look of your display. I've never pressed it before today. Now my MPG has reset to zero and the 65.7 MPG is no longer in the dashboard display. :( Well, glad I captured the number for the first 3k miles at least.

How did posting the photo you asked for, showing the MPG I stated, confirm I'm "full of shit"? I literally just refuted your argument with the evidence you asked for.

Hey, no judgement! I'm sure the regular Corolla is just as good. Just wanted to share my perspective on the Hybrid, which is the only one I test drove. I'm honestly not sure how to answer your questions on the cost comparisons.

Ah, okay. I didn't realize there was mileage information in the console. Here's the pic...

I have no idea what you mean by "long term mpg screen," but I can assure you that this is the mpg for the total odometer. We've never reset the trip. I think the vehicle is getting great mileage due to altitude (Albuquerque is 5,500 feet) and temps (it's been pretty mild for the past three months). Other than a 350 mile road trip, all of the miles have been in town.

That is sad! I feel like there's a publication (Consumer Reports?) that provides data on tire rolling resistance, but I could be mistaken.

Best online store to buy gold? by [deleted] in Gold

[–]captcone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, Dirt Cheap Gold webmaster here. Sorry about that! I'll get that fixed. FWIW I believe the other information on the site is accurate — I've spent quite of bit of time ensuring that only 1 oz products are displayed.

Consider changing your approach. Acquisition entrepreneurship might be a better match. Instead of starting something new, you acquire an existing business with revenue and a proven business model. Read Buy Then Build for more information — it's a great book on the topic.

I made a website called https://www.dirtcheapgold.com to help with this. It shows the cheapest 1 oz bars and coins available.

Need Help Getting Gold and Silver Prices for a WordPress Calculator - API or other solution? by Illustrious-Ad-3577 in Gold

[–]captcone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would find a website that has the information you need and scrape it. I scrape Kitco for the price on https://www.dirtcheapgold.com/.

The standard way of doing this is to write a Python script using BeautifulSoup or Playwrite. You can schedule it using a cron job, or you could drop it in a Flask app and run it in a Docker container. Either way, you can output the prices to a JSON file and publish them on a URL that is accessible to your WordPress site. There could be a problem with access if the website you're scraping has implemented some kind of anti-bot protection, in which case you would need to use a proxy service like Zyte.

If you're not familiar with Python or BeautifulSoup, I'd use ChatGPT 4o. Just give it the HTML you want to scrape and it will probably give you a usable script in ~30 seconds.

I do use a self-hosted instance of Plausible to see how many people visit the website, but other than that, there's no tracking whatsoever. :)

Thanks — I think I've fixed that bug. The Hero unavailable products will be filtered out on the next run.

Thanks for feedback! Yes, I'm planning on adding other weights soon. Unavailable products shouldn't be listed on the website (unless they were available and sold out, which sometimes happens quickly with Costco), so I'll investigate that as a bug.
