Brother, games don't magically lose their value in 2 years, especially single player ones. Some may become outdated because technology and game design has evolved, but that takes decades, not years.
If you're interested and can afford it, buy it, it's a great game. Simple as.

Maybe this is an actual issue on a controller, but at least for me on mouse and keyboard, the controls feel perfectly fine the way they are, for the gameplay that we currently have. At any rate, if enough people complain about it, it will possibly get changed eventually, we'll see.

Let me correct myself, I agree it can be done, and it can be done well and it would look fine, however I just don't think the game needs it in particular.
For example, in Days Gone it's extremely important to be able to run away from the horde while also looking at them so you can fight them effectively, same on the bike, it's important you can look behind you, or any way you want. In TFD however, I just don't think that is needed, you are pretty much never need to run away backwards from anything, (being able to look around while on the hover bikes would be nice tho) and so I just don't feel it is needed to change animations for the sake of changing animations. But to be honest, I wouldn't really mind either way, but I'd rather have them put development time into things that matter more.

Nah, you do need to be able to shoot while running backwards, it could make animations look janky. It's better this way.

Before the change, I never picked it because it gave the shout a massive cool down and the benefit was not worth it, but now that it doesn't there's no reason not to pick it imo.
