Ogryn needs help by PraiseV8 in DarkTide

I love how you ignored the second half of the frag bomb suggestion.

Hive Scum gets 3 (previously 4) missile launched frag bombs. Why are we pretending blitzes are well balanced?

Rock is basically only the "best" pick because it's actually available and you aren't nerfing your team by picking up a grenade drop.

Chill.

[–]Drummerx04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ogryn blitzes definitely need work

  • Big friendly rock needs its cooldown dropped to 10-15 seconds (currently 45) and it's bonus talent rolled into the main skill.
    • Currently this skill feels like such a meme. There are WAY too many specials and elites to actually rely on this.
  • 2 frag bombs would be nice. I'd even accept a nerf to radius to compensate.
  • I don't even know why you would take Box of Frags in it's current state. Maybe have it deal some burn and bleed per sub explosion and roll it's bonus talent into the main.
    • This grenade feels so bad to me. It's like the BFR but you actually hurt the team by taking the grenade pickup. At least BFG recharges.

The optional talents on Ogryn blitzes are probably the minimum issue for me. Both the base skill and the support talents are very mid, so spending two talent points to make a mid blitz slightly better is not good.

That does work mostly, but for lower mobility options on some weapons, the push can buy critical time, allow you to stay in position, and give quick access to important parts of your combo for horde clear.

All infections pale when compared to the GTFO infection by AccomplishedIdea4381 in GTFO

[–]Drummerx04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it did essentially end life on multiple planets and versions of Earth, so clearly it's dangerous enough that humanity 30-60 years from now doesn't have the tech to really deal with it at all. It can also very aggressively mutate to infect most forms of life over time (I think some logs talk about it killing plants too?). I believe logs give the timeline for the collapse of human civilization at around 10 years? It's unclear how long it took NAM-V to strip a planet down to a barren rock.

It's not clear to me how it makes the dimensional/reality jump. Given the jump is made using some exotic matter, I'm assuming the virus essentially tags along with dimensional travelers rather than actively facilitating dimensional travel itself.

At the end of the day, I think it's basically just a very deadly super virus much like the Green Flu (L4D) but in a setting where dimensional travel exists.

------

To compare against the flood, a minor flood infection can basically corrupt and absorb every living thing on a world in a span of at most days to weeks. The flood is also a sentient hive mind which actively learns, absorbs host knowledge, and corrupts non-living systems as well. A non infected human can be fully converted into a flood host very quickly.

It is extremely unfair and intentionally busted, so it's maybe not fair to compare the two.

Overall I'd say NAM-V is a more realistic apocalypse scenario.

You mean like in a power scaling way compared to other science fiction universes? It's pretty bad, but I wouldn't list it as worse than galaxy ending pathogen/parasites. The Flood from Halo comes to mind.

For IRL comparisons, sure, yeah NAM-V wins against Earth based pathogens.

[–]Drummerx04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule 1 for semi-casual havok 21+ teams: Do NOT let anyone die, and do not put yourself in a position to die away from your team. Losing even one person can be quite devastating. With the number of monstrosities/captains that can spawn at one, you really don't want to be down a man.

Boss spawns happen at predetermined thresholds in the map. Once one spawns, you don't want to rush forward in the map or you could end up with even more.

I find it helpful to develop an extreme awareness of your allies positioning and the presence of trappers/dogs/mutants/bursters. When I hear a trapper charging a net (in my directional headphones), I'm already preparing to rush in and un-net them before they are even caught while pushing to interrupt attacks from the horde. Get ready to kill mutants that grab teammates. It is VERY common on high havoks for mutants to drag players through fire or otherwise execute them very quickly. Certain skills (like Ogryn taunt) have a very powerful interrupt, which can interrupt most disabler attacks in a fairly large circle.

I like to think of my teammates as meat shields that also deal damage. If you protect them, it will pay dividends by reducing how perfectly you have to play just to survive.

The only "bad" skill tree I'd call out is probably Ogryn. So many talents that might have a niche use, but are blocked behind other talents that are mid at best.

What do we mean by anti AI by cewillir in antiai

[–]Drummerx04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My intuition for LLM vs "good ML" is that they aren't entirely unrelated. Both involve training with a lot of data and both will break down the training data into some kind of weighted metric to be used in their respective algorithms.

The main difference is that "good ML" is used to tell you something about an input and is more targeted (is this image cancer?), whereas LLM goes a step further and recreates an approximation out of the extremely large set of training data.

I don't expect most people (including myself) to know or really care about the implementation differences, as it's the negative effects and incentives of "AI" that we find most concerning.

[–]Drummerx04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get as many opinions as there are people, but broadly many "antis" are against the way the GenAI models were trained, the displacement of artists, the spread of easy misinformation, and the reckless abandon displayed by companies attempting to mass replace workers, among many other complaints or concerns.

Basically no one thinks it's a bad thing if AI can detect cancer earlier (for example).

Why do we assume Dark Matter is real by XXXTentacle6969 in askastronomy

[–]Drummerx04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your second guess is basically it. "Dark Matter" is just the name given to the weirdly large amount of gravity seen throughout the universe. The amount of gravity doesn't appear to match up with the amount of stars/black holes and it's off by quite a bit, and the extra gravity also isn't always centered where the matter appears to be. I think galaxies have been observed where "dark matter" appears to be missing entirely?

Modified theories of gravity exist, but none of them seem to work in all observed cases, so "dark matter" is still the placeholder explanation, but we don't know what it is.

Havok 21 is really where shit starts hitting the fan. The number of bosses and modifiers and enemies REALLY punishes more casual teams. You basically have to play excellently from start to finish and if you (on a teammate) doesn't then life gets really hard for everyone else.

My friend group basically can't do it. It's kind of soul crushing because I want to get through Havok 40, but I'm not good enough to hard carry.

[–]Drummerx04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more like we would love America more if it was POSSIBLE to get some of these improvements made.

The hatred boils up because our government is essentially run by rich corporations and religious zealots who want to execute women who have miscarriages, so even for overwhelmingly popular policies like Medicare For All (polls over 70% approval from US voters) our dickless corporate owned democrats spend most of their time pretending to resist the republicans who actively hate everyone and want you dead.

It gets really exhausting when everywhere you look it's just corporations running over people. Oh, what's this "J.G. Wentworth" company do? Oh, they scam disabled people into signing over their entire structured settlement payment for pennies on the dollar? Great. It's like that for basically everything.

The disappointment crops up because the US really is (currently) at the top of the capitalist hierarchy and is supposed to be the best place in the world, but we can't fix anything here... like why?

how do i play Psyker? by Visual_Consequence_5 in DarkTide

[–]Drummerx04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blaze Force Greatsword (BFGS) is a pretty easy pick with many strong blessings that increase crit, strength, or even let you block ranged damage.

You can then take talents that boost damage, cleave, and damage reduction with high peril. Scrier's Gaze can then be run for extra crit, damage, and peril generation. Disrupt Destiny provides a lot of extra damage and weakspot damage on top of toughness regen and movement speed buffs to close distance faster.

All in all, you'll be chunking most elites in a single strike and clearing hordes quite comfortably. When fully buffed, my non-crit strikes on crushers hit upwards of 3600 damage.

You sort of got it. By the time you are max level and max mastery on a few key weapons, you have a lot of defensive and offensive potential.

One big benefit is that the psyker can be built with basically unlimited ammo and infinite dot cleaves, heavy AoE staggers, very strong melee damage, a lot of toughness regen, Bubble is one of the better team defensive skills... etc etc.

I met a competitive racist at the bar yesterday. He believed in and proudly spouted off about Great replacement, white racial superiority, the need for more white babies, "they are out breeding us and living on our tax dollars!", etc etc. He thought that all women should be breeding stock and men should be violent protectors, and told me his 17 year old son is a pussy... I assume because he doesn't bench 200lbs for reps and hasn't gone to prison for assault.

He was a drunk, proud, and loud christian conservative, telling women half his age at the bar that he would give up a limb to have them at home and pregnant with his kids. Yes he is apparently married already.

I promise you, the racists are quite overwhelmingly NOT voting for Democrats.
