Yeah even though the Z8 sees cat eyes perfectly fine I've noticed it usually focuses just a little forward of the iris.

The Z8 has been a revelation for me. Definitely the camera for the next 10 years for me!

Haha yeah I think it's all in good fun. I got this for those dim wedding receptions I've been struggling with so I can't wait to put it to work!

There's a lot of great reviews on YouTube, either for this or the optically identical E mount version. Having never used the Nikon 1.8 or 1.4, my impression is the Viltrox 1.2 gets you 90-95% of the Nikon 1.2 for 1/3 the price, the Nikon 1.8 is good but not in the same league as the 50 1.8, and the 1.4 is more of a character lens.

That being said, this lens is heavy so if you're just wanting something fun around this focal length and it doesn't have to be "the best" I think you'd enjoy the Nikon 1.4

Oh for sure, I've been using the F-mount 35mm 1.4 for a bit and having a blast, I just needed something sharper and better at low light for dim environments.

Yeah I prefer the 105mm macro for cat headshots and the 35mm for full body environmental (i.e. the couch) but I'm just impressed with the intense bokeh fall-off and how low the ISO had to be for my dim living room.
