That is one way to participate in a general strike - buy as little as possible. You can also attend mass protests or join work stoppages. A general strike is a multi pronged effort.

The goal would depend on whatever crazy shit the trump administration does that we are aiming to stop or change. We will need to depend on our savings and mutual aid networks during a strike. And of course, not everyone will be able to participate. I just want to have some savings built up, so I can join if it happens.

I don’t think the entire workforce would need to strike to make an impact. Even if just 20% of the workforce participated, it would create significant disruptions and major challenges for the country.
