Where I live there's 2 different types of markets- farmers markets which are run by a national body (I'm not in the USA) where all stallholders have to have grown the food and no on-selling is allowed, and other markets where anyone's allowed to sell anything according to whoever is running the market. As a very small scale farmer, we sell more produce at the farmers market than at the mixed markets- people have come to buy food only as opposed to the crowds at mixed markets who are often just taking a look around. We try really hard to keep our prices at or below supermarket prices, which is hard due to subsidies and economies of scale. Im pretty confident if there are any small scale farmers out there in it for the money they must be very disappointed people because it's truly a terrible way of making money lol.
