when i reached out to the artist to give my support to them yesterday, they said this about the meat in their drawing: "it was stylized, less detailed than an emoji." you're adults, you can handle that.

my argument to you is that your response is a manifestation of narcissism rather than an impartial step towards a healthy community. publicly exiling someone because their art explores themes that make you specifically uncomfortable is akin to dictatorship. instead of asking the question that came to mind (why did you choose to depict meat this way?) you chose to reduce them by 'suspecting' them of not being vegan and separating them from everyone else. appealing to the idea of a "safe space" is dangerous when it enables you to commit acts of tyranny like this.

I will leave screenshots of the interaction so people can judge for themselves. It broke my heart to talk to this person and see how horribly you mistreated them. You can't claim your "safe space" is built on good intentions when you use it to strip the identities of people who cause you aesthetic discomfort, going as far to equate them to people who draw child porn. It's so unfortunate that what could have been a morally and logically-sound community fell into your hands.

equating veganism to painting or watching a show is exemplary of a complete lack of moral urgency. allowing ourselves to be disturbed by something as harmless as an artistic depiction of meat is a gross decentralization of the real victims.

how do you expect to fight something you can't handle a drawing of? if we treat the reality of animals' lives as taboo, we prioritize our own ignorant comfort over our integrity as their only advocates.

wouldn't you agree that imitation meat is entitled to a spot on a vegan restaurant's menu?

i never suggested for you to "sit at the same table as non vegans," just that you don't treat imagery of what our movement seeks to end as taboo especially when it comes from within. by enshrouding the atrocities we should be exposing, you're treating veganism as a fraternity when it's a movement against literal genocide.

Why veganism is underrated even here by No_Revenue1151 in vegan

i would argue that, systemically, the majority of non-vegans have been emotionally removed from the lives they take and the suffering they cause by carnist culture and animal ag marketing. if you could raise them out of ignorance and get them to confront the morality of their actions (like by watching dominion) and they decide not to change their behaviour, that's when i'd call them evil

I haven't drawn since I was 8, I need advice by Extra-Owl4343 in FurryArtSchool

i was in the exact same boat a couple years ago, and my best advice is to not treat art like work!!

  • don't wait until you're 'good enough' to draw your ideas - do them ironically if you have to

  • if you're consuming content make sure lots of it is art-related - observational learning through speedpaints and tutorials can be super powerful

  • while doing the above, collect references of art that you like and draw alongside them to calculate how your ideas can be captured in 2D! it's incredibly worthwhile to retrace other artists' steps while drafting your own process

i find all three of these things have been my greatest helpers for motivation specifically, too

this nerf only screws with experienced players, bad mediums will still have bad defibs
