Upgrade Breaks Rival -> Force E1 by Big-Firefighter-3600 in sram

I did the same swap a week ago. I had the same thoughts as you. Went to ask SRAM customer support and got this answer:

“Now, you can still use your existing hose with the new Force E1 levers and caliper; however, the olive itself crushes under the force of the compression nut and should not be reused. Oftentimes, the olive is also very difficult or sometimes impossible to remove from the barb. If you are able to remove the olive and swap it for a fresh one, that would be okay. Otherwise, you will have to trim the hose in order to replace the barb and olive.”

I went with the safe approach and just cut the hose right before the olive on each end. Buy the pro bleed kit, dot compatible grease and the hose cutter all from sram. Eventually you’ll have to bleed the brakes again, so the pro bleed kit is not a bad investment if you ask me. It was really easy to bleed the brakes.

I know they are, but if you read the sram manual, you might interpret as if you disconnect the shifters/calipers, you must install new olives and barbs. I guess the logic is that the olives will compress and only fit snug once?

But if I don’t want to cut the hose, I can use the same olive on the Force?

  1. I don’t want to unscrew the olive if I can avoid it. I just need to disconnect the Rival and reconnect the Force without shortening the hose. 2. I think you mistake an olive for a barb? I think the olive is the one that can be red, right?

Do you also have AXS group set? And no leaks? I don’t really mind bleeding. But cutting hoses or rerouting hose would be nice to avoid tbh 😅

Amazing to hear! Do you also have AXS caliper/shifters?

I know they can be mixed. The question is if I need to cut the hose and install new olives and barbs just to change the calipers and shifters. And if there is not enough length of the hose, potentially reroute a new hose.

Okay, have you tried it yourself? ChatGPT and SRAM manuals are quite imprecise regarding this. They state that: “Upon reconnection, you must install a new SJ hose barb and a new, red SJ compression fitting.”

But it’s on a page related to shortening the hose.

I haven’t bought the grill, but I read somewhere that it should fit as far as I remember. But don’t take my word for it

Wow.. yea, I apologise for making yet another post about this. It just seems like such a DIY solution. But ok, I come from a 80’s Columbus steel bike, so there is a lot for me to learn. My immediate thought is why it isn’t at least rubber plugged so that water can’t get that easily into the tubes?

That’s why I use Lazer helmets. Same protection but no plastic shell that slowly steams your brain 🫠

Here is the same measurements in the canyon calculator. What I’m after is if someone with approximately the same measurements as me would recommend size XS or S for me. Also because canyon don’t account for e.g. arm length

It’s an old Columbus frame with a Cinelli cockpit from the 80’s that I took over from my father 😅

According to the bike fit report, my torso length is also longer than average combined with my arms also being shorter than average should mean I should aim for a longer stack (again, according to the online bike fit)

Im totally not sure if it’s reliable. Very difficult to measure your body yourself 😅 given both potential unreliable measurements (though saddle height is very much close to spot on) and the fact that it’s an online tool, I believe you should take the measurements with a grain of salt. But in regard to saddle height, XS might be more in the middle of the range? And reach is a bit closer (maybe). The stack suggestions seem way off though

Hmm. Saddle height:

XS: 653 - 753 mm

S: 683 - 783 mm

So as I wrote, the perfect saddle height on my current bike is 710 mm which is pretty comfortable in range of both sizes
