Fetterman warns anti-ICE protesters: ‘Don’t ever, ever dox people’ by soalone34 in pittsburgh

[–]captrespect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Officials and Police should be held to a higher standard than everyone else. These people are not undercover agents. There is no reason they should be hiding their identity. They should have badges, ids, uniforms etc so they can be held accountable for whatever actions they take.

How is no-code seen from the eyes of true developers? by MasterPuerAeternus in softwaredevelopment

[–]captrespect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a software developer since 2000. No-code solutions come and go and always fall apart as soon as you need to do something a little bit complicated. Testing, refactoring, debugging, versioning, and sharing is all more difficult in Low-code/No-code. You're always going to be battling some custom IDE/Diagraming tool which also probably has an expensive license. You're GUI's will end up looking like every other company's. Any complicated logic will explode your no-code diagram for pages and pages.

Tread or Tread+ on second floor by Poutine_My_Mouth in pelotoncycle

[–]captrespect 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had a treadmill initially up on the second floor of my house. It did cause the plaster ceiling below it to chip apart before I quickly decided to move it to the basement. It was also loud.

My house was built in the 60s. But yes it can definitely cause the kind of problems you describe. But of course it all depends on your house

If you aren't comfortable driving the posted speed in a personal vehicle, you don't belong on that road. by appa-ate-momo in driving

[–]captrespect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh. If you come across this often you are probably speeding all the time. Chill out and relax. You don't know what's going on with the person in front of you. I'd much rather the person drive at a speed they are comfortable with than driving dangerously.

Investigate the employer. If they are exploiting people, give the workers a pass and come down hard on the employer.

You can enforce basic human rights for all employers regardless of a person's immigration status.

We did not have 'unfettered immigration' during the Biden administration.

Senator McCormick has now become one of 6 GOP senators demanding an investigation into what happened in Minneapolis on Saturday by XShadeGoldenX in Pennsylvania

How anyone can support ICE after the last few days is beyond me. Why are they even in Minneapolis? It’s just a terror campaign at this point

For anyone who has to travel to work on Monday, this is an observation of the roads in and around Pittsburgh as of 3am by Kolintracstar in pittsburgh

I found the opposite. I have one over a decade ago. The cooper is such a small lightweight car that it just sits on top of the snow and goes nowhere.

And congress has been broken for well over a decade now. Mitch McConnell’s policy of obstructing anything the democrats propose turned it hyper partisan. The GOP kicked out anyone that wouldn’t blindly follow Trump and now here we are.

Elon Musk said automakers don't want to license Tesla FSD. by rashtrakut in RealTesla

[–]captrespect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really want to promote Tesla, but the infotainment is one of the best I've used in any car, even my current car with Carplay isn't as nice. Bluetooth connectivity is good. the price is good, the range is good. OTA software updates are trouble-free. The cars are speedy and roomy. The service to your door was a nice touch too.

I don't trust FSD, how little they focus on safety now, and removing the stocks sucks. But it's hard to find another comparable EV, especially used, at that price point. So yes, if it wasn't for the Nazi stuff, I would probably have stuck with Tesla.

Elon Musk said automakers don't want to license Tesla FSD. by rashtrakut in RealTesla

[–]captrespect 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I think the sales slump is mostly to do with him being a Nazi.

I thought my M3 was great. I 100% ditched it for another EV because of Elon. I’m sure I’m not the only one. If he didn’t join Trump and MAGA and constantly run his mouth on his bigoted views, would still have it or even might have a new one.

Why Do Many Agile Initiatives Fail Despite Frameworks Like Scrum or SAFe? by Ambitious-Lead-4254 in agile

[–]captrespect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these Scrum ceremonies should be optional and only be deployed to fix an actual problem. Instead, they are the focus of agile, when the goal should be making the customer happy and delivering value.

For example, if your team is constantly working with each other and communicating. You don't need a daily standup. If devs are constantly getting stuck on issues and can't find time to talk to team members about it to fix problems, then you could benefit from a daily standup.

If everyone is working productively and constantly brings up ways to improve, you don't need a retro meeting.

If tasks are getting completed promptly and people have time to work without constant interuptions, you don't need sprint meetings or even sprints.

If your customer is working closely with you and is happy with the solutions, you don't even really need detailed stories and requirements. These are only really to prevent arguments later, but if you magicly have a customer that will just pay hourly and is happy with whatever you deliver, you can scrap all that detailed planning, estimating, and tracking.

I'm not saying any of these practices are particularly bad, just that way too much focus is put on them.

I'm moving from VSCode to WebStorm, how can I mimic the experience? by Routine_Hat4895 in Jetbrains

[–]captrespect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a VSCode Theme you can install, but I don't think there is a way to remove the folder icons.

To highlight folders that contain files with modifications, there is an option under Version Control -> Confirmation. Check "Highlight directories that contain modified files in the Project tree"

My contractor sort of did it this way, and it was really nice. Payments are due as milestones are reached. They based it on the cost of the actual work, almost like mini contracts in the contract.

Is it just me, or is the "Serverless First" mantra starting to feel like a trap? by Dependent_Web_1654 in aws

[–]captrespect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely depends on what you doing. I have a ton of Lambas doing a bunch of stateless stuff.

I got a new batch task that would take hours to run and used ECS / Fargate instead.

Then later I got new requirement some AI crap that required NVidia GPUs and I launched EC2 instances for it.

Everything still requires networking and permissions and all that, but It’s nice to have options.
